Forums - Politics Discussion - Religious people understand the world less, study suggests

I would honestly change religious to ideological cause it seems some people really have no sense of reality

I thought we had this exact same topic a few weeks ago? Except that it was "religious people more likely to believe in fairytales" or something like that.

I'm totally sure I won't be locking this in a few hours due to angry athiests and thiests fighting over "Im smrter than u cuz i dun belive in a sky wizard (they think repeating this enough will make them look clever for whatever reason) an u dooo!" and then the thiests will go "u cnt prov god aint real so ur dumb" and then the children cry and scream until we have to ban them and lock the inevitable response threads. It's all the same really. Happens every. single. time. It's depressing. It's stupid. And you could use that energy to post on a good thread that doesn't promote anal fissure anger that these threads seem to produce.

Ikr? Or even better: Create something unique. This could've been a potential Switch conspiracy theory thread... but alas it's not. I'm disappointed.

Radical atheists are deeply religious as well.

They believe in the religion of being condescending douchebags.

I have absolutely no problem with religious people, even with people that want to think inanimate objects have some kind of spirit - I can respect that. Btw showing thankfulness towards the earth, the sun, the oceans etc feels quite a bit more appropriate to me than towards some kind of nebulous creator.
What I can't deal with if people cite religious reasons why other people have to change their behaviours (although they are not hurting anybody).

Sounds plausible. I'll have to check the study properly later (if I remember), but certainly sounds plausible. It's actually quite surprising but it sounds like it's hard to get the study somehow wrong.

Well, religion basically originated from giving personalities to things like fire and lightning ...

I don't think this is necessarily inaccurate. Many less intelligent people are drawn to religion. However, that is not the same as saying all or most people who are drawn to religion are less intelligent.

Excellent point. And considering how simple the study sounds, there isn't really much room for error there. The only potential major source of error is a small study group, and I don't know the size of the group (because I don't have time to resolve it) so I don't really know if that's an issue (I'm guessing it's not).

Do you have anything to say about the study though? Anything wrong with the methodology?

I'm so shocked, gasp.

Just lock it now. Just get rid of fucking dumbass threads like this. Go talk about politics and religion somewhere else. I'm sick of this being on the front page!

I bet the Wii U would sell more than 15M LTD by the end of 2015. He bet it would sell less. I lost.

"They also found that people who believe in God and the paranormal are more likely to be women and tend to base their actions on instinct rather than analytical thinking."

^^^Sexist. Study invalidated.

I'd rather make company with a "religious" person who's doing some good to his community than an "intelligent" person who's caught up in his pride of "knowledge." And there are situations like this, and we all know it. So in essence, this "religious" person might know more about the world from a humanitarian standpoint which is what ultimately matters in the long run. And make no mistake that I'll make company with most anyone. This just serves as an illustration that the world isn't as black and white as some "intelligent" people might have assumed.

The church in Ireland was reaching out and doing its part to let us know as a country that Gays are wrong and should have no rights, I mean... it is one thing to reach out to the community to do what you think is helping, but if you are doing it without any knowledge or grasp of the world then you can be doing more harm than good. Same with the spread of religon into 3rd world countries because the people their needed help.... but the people there did not need help from a group who condemned the use of Condoms which would have stopped the spreading of HIV or at least not encouraged it to spread more.

I'm not saying it's always the case of course, there are people who cite their religon as what makes them want to do good deeds and I mean genuine good deeds such as charity work at soup kitchens and such. I am nice to people though, not because a man up stairs tells me to be, but just because I want to be a nice person, it shouldn't take fear of eternal punishment after you die to make you want to be nice to others... should it?
