I can't be disappointed yet. That's a benefit. Because more than likely when the veil does get lifted i'll be disappointed.

Totally make sense, for instance NX NDA is incomparable stronger than Wii U NDA was. |
In what way?
I think the better question is indeed what benefit do they have from announcing right now? what's the rush?
they aren't magically going to stop people from buying competitor consoles this holiday, there's no way, even if the NX is hyped up. Because kids/people want things NOW and under that tree.
If Nintendo hasn't announced the system by sometime in October though I would agree with there being some concern
I'm just remenbering when NX was delayed to march '17 and the infamous michael pacther pointed out that probably the machine was actually delayed to holiday '17, and the march date was just a way to apaguize investors till the fiscal year end.
Keeping nx a secret is a smart way to wait till january and call "oops, guys, we couldn't finish in time, pls wait for the machine this holiday, ok? thanks"
"Hardware design isn’t about making the most powerful thing you can.
Today most hardware design is left to other companies, but when you make hardware without taking into account the needs of the eventual software developers, you end up with bloated hardware full of pointless excess. From the outset one must consider design from both a hardware and software perspective."

Letting rumors and speculation drive the narrative can prove disasterous |
Exactly. NX rumors having gotten so out of control I think whatever they do reveal will be hurt in the long run. Also, as the OP stated, there is no way MS or Sony are going to try and imitate it.

If its a good system then the word can spread and maybe people might give Nintendo another chance.
Waiting until right before release to reveal will prove disastrous for them. Nintendo needs to build platform awareness for the NX to the public if they want any chance of a successful launch. It's what they failed to do with Wii U and will certainly fail again if NX is revealed like it's the yearly iPhone upgrade or something and then out the next week.
They are probably worried it will cut into 3DS and WiiU's (LOL) sales for the holiday.
That or it probably will be delayed.
They haven't disappointed anyone yet!
Sigs are dumb. And so are you!
