Not trying to be condescending here, but do you know what a die shrink is?

They went from 28nm to 16nm, no? We don't know what AMD defines as "semi-custom" design either, they're desperate for anything to throw at their shareholders because they are sinking as a business. I would not put it past them to cite XBox One S as one of their semi-custom wins.

Let me ask you this, if AMD is involved with the Nintendo NX, don't you find it a little odd that even SuperMetalDave64 cannot find one source that links AMD to Nintendo NX? I think he tried to say Nicowav is saying NX is more powerful than PS4, but even that I think he was stretching it and even Nicowav apparently said Nvidia is the chip supplier to NX.

Even with NDAs, someone could easily just say "Eurogamer's report is bullshit". No one reputable has done that. In fact it's been cross corraborated by like 4 or 5 other major sources.

I'm not saying whether or not Nintendo is using AMD. I'm saying a die shrink is not a new design. In addition your misconceptions about die shrinks you also seem to have a false impression what companies can say to their shareholders. You continually imply that AMD is making up stuff to snow their shareholders which is illegal. Even layman know a die shrink of a design you already sold a customer is not a new design win. You seem to let your disdain for AMD color your judgments.

I work in the investing business, lol you have no idea what companies try to pull and hide in their returns. AMD is not saying anything illegal by any stretch of the imagination. Were you around for the XBox One S design? Do you know the work put into it?

"Semi-custom design" win is whatever AMD wants it to be, it's not even an industry accepted term that every company uses. It also depends on the contract AMD had with MS, if the XBox One S design required a new contract, then that also by that merit can be a "new design win" for AMD which will earn them revenue for another 3-4 years. It's entirely possible shriking that fat ass wad of eSRAM for example required a shit ton more design work than a regular die shrink.

AMD has no obligation to "tell it like it is" to some video game enthusiasts on a message board.

There isn't one credible source linking AMD to Nintendo NX.

On the other hand AMD haven't been doing that well in the performance-per-watt department for a while as both, intel and nvidia have been able to outperform AMD with more energy efficient designs. Things keeps geting more interesting

That's true, the most powerful AMD APU currently available that uses the same amount of power as Tegra X1 (15 watts) is only 300 gflops to Tegra's 500 gflops. Maybe AMD has something secret in the works that combines some Zen based mobile CPU cores with some Polaris GPU cores.

Well, the current most powerful Polaris based GPU is the RX 480 which has a TDP of 150Watts and it gets outperformed by the current weakest Pascal, the GTX 1060 which has a TDP of 120Watts.

Also of interest, since you bring the flop output, know that the RX 480 is a 5,834 GFLOPS (5.834 TFLOPS) card vs the 3,855/4,372 GFLOPS (3.855/4.372 TFLOPS) of the GTX 1060. Thats approximately a 1.5 to 2.0 Teraflop difference in favor of the AMD Polaris chip and it still gets owned.

Of course, AMD still pulls ahead in most DirectX 12 benchmarks, but not in all. The GTX 1060 has a notable victory in Rise of the Tomb Raider DX12.  Also, both cards are relatively new (RX 480 came in June while GTX 1060 launched in August) and their drivers haven't matured blah blah blah blah

For those that didn't watch SMD64 video, the source of his news is basically from a conference call that AMD had with Deutsche bank which has just ended a couple of hours back. The interesting part is around the 28th minute...

"You see the success and diversification that we've achieved in game consoles. In fact of our three newest wins two have been just announced recently by our game console partners Microsoft and Sony. And so with those specifications you can see how with the Playstation 4 Pro with the Microsoft Scorpio they're leveraging the IP that we've developed, our next generation IP in graphics."

You might be an alt, but that is definitely some tasty info. Things are so uncertain with the NX. Is like the  huge ammount of rumors have mudled the whole thing. Your link is not working for me btw

Aaaaaand the plot thickens!

Pocky Lover Boy!

Actually it's the Xbox One SS, to be released early next year. It features two 4k Bluray drives to really rub it in.

I get being skeptical and all,  but when the AMD executive is being asked about how semi custom solutions  and gaming consoles have been their bread and butter in keeping the company healthy. Then he goes on to brag about the 3 new custom design wins (in which 2, the PS4Pro and Scorpio have just been announced).

Who else buys semi custom solutions from AMD?

It's obviously a product that hasn't been revealed, which is why they won't say anything further! I think AMD is far more credible than all of the other sources combined. Once again no one isn't saying here that AMD is the only company Nintendo is working with, but if you listen and trust Emily Rogers and Eurogamer. They both are riding hard that AMD is nowhere in the picture...

Maybe that's what Nintendo wants people to think at this point, because people are reaching extra hard to not wanna believe words straight from AMD themselves.

yeah SMD's AMD audio kinda gives ''his side'' the edge atm

Very interesting, Eurogamer is likely the most reputable gaming site and they nailed the Neo's specs dead on. Their info was later backed by other reputable sources and Nintendo's patent for detachable controllers.I don't doubt that the dev kits are/were running on Tegra chips.

Either the AMD custom chips isn't Nintendo. (Hololens?)

Either there is an NX dedicated console on the way, which is seperate from the handheld/tablet.

Tegra is just placeholder for an uncompleted chip (real reason NX is delay?).

We should hopefully find out this month.
