It'll be passing $650 million this weekend.
It's still only in week 4. It has a little ways to go. Japan will have a release as well. Latest estimates from Scott Mendelson on Forbes and Gitesh on Box Office Guru are suggesting this movie surpasses $700 million by the end of its run. And both have already considered this movie a major success, not debating whether it's a good movie or not. Strictly speaking box office, this movie was a success at $600 million.

Week 5, not 4.

Technically at week 4.4, but in its 5th weekend of release. For arguments sake, we're both right and I'll leave it at that.

I think a sequel can be as or more successful if they fix things. Remember, this movie was drowned by the critics. If the movie didn't have a few of its well documented issues and was more well received by critics (which you assume the sequel will learn from), then maybe even more people will go see it. Only time will tell. I don't think we'll see its sequel for a number of years though. Regardless, $700 million will be a stout run and can prove hard to top.

Well we assumed after Man of Steel that Batman vs Superman wait...

We assumed after Batman vs superman that SS would be.... wait

I am not holding any expectations of quality when they see that such films made with poor effort are making a lot of money regardless.

IMHO it was trying to fix the movie based on public reaction that derailed SS. Also the uber high expectation for making a Ton of money.

Its at slightly over $675 million world wide now I'm guessing it will only need two more weeks maximum to pass $700 million world wide now. Also it making at least slightly more then Guardians of the Galaxy domestically is pretty much guaranteed now too.

The quiet end of Summer movie releases saved it. Probably will make 20-30 million more than it was going to thanks to a dismal August, which is continuing into September.

Exactly it will be in the top 10 until the end of September.  Also since a little over 55% of its revenue is coming from overseas it actually doing pretty good for a new IP outside of North America.

This movie is having legs beyond what I imagined it possible of. Turns out that th 69% drop in the 2nd week-end was meaningless. It's currently at a 2.26 multiplier from the opening week-end and still going up. So, it will prove to have longer legs than Civil War.

It will probably do well. People seem to love these uninspired superhero movies for some reason. Cant really expect much from Hollywood these days, the place where originality goes to die and former wrestler The Rock is now the highest paid actor...

the rock isn't a bad actor though

12/22/2016- Made a bet with Ganoncrotch that the first 6 months of 2017 will be worse than 2016. A poll will be made to determine the winner. Loser has to take a picture of them imitating their profile picture.

The fact that this movie opened $40M higher than GotG, yet looks like it may have to crawl it's way to the same $333M, with a chance that it doesn't make it, tells you all you need to know about the film.  And GotG didn't even have to shoehorn in cameos from Iron Man or Captain America to try and get more butts in the seats.  Given it's crazy marketing budget, and the fact that this movie has to make $750 to break even, this is nothing short of a disappointment for DC and WB.

I don't understand. Wikipedia lists the budget at 175 million and yet they need 750 million to break even...can somebody explain that math to me?
