It'll be passing $650 million this weekend.
It's still only in week 4. It has a little ways to go. Japan will have a release as well. Latest estimates from Scott Mendelson on Forbes and Gitesh on Box Office Guru are suggesting this movie surpasses $700 million by the end of its run. And both have already considered this movie a major success, not debating whether it's a good movie or not. Strictly speaking box office, this movie was a success at $600 million.

Week 5, not 4.

Technically at week 4.4, but in its 5th weekend of release. For arguments sake, we're both right and I'll leave it at that.

I think a sequel can be as or more successful if they fix things. Remember, this movie was drowned by the critics. If the movie didn't have a few of its well documented issues and was more well received by critics (which you assume the sequel will learn from), then maybe even more people will go see it. Only time will tell. I don't think we'll see its sequel for a number of years though. Regardless, $700 million will be a stout run and can prove hard to top.
