Forums - Movies & TV - Suicide Squad Prediction: Screw the critics

You guys really should wish for better movies, not just successes for crappy renditions of the worlds you love. The comic book genre is glutted and there's no way it will sustain itself with mediocrity. Just be happy that Disney and Marvel actually know how to handle these IPs.

Is Suicide Squad really as bad as the critics say it is? Everything I've read from people who have seen it suggests no.

BvS had relatively fair criticisms but at the end of the day, I still don't think it was as terrible as critics said.

I agree, I don't want crappy movies either... But I do want to see my favorite comic and superhero characters on the big screen. To be fair, Disney/Marvel has done superb but let's not act as if all of their movies are gold because they aren't. There are a few turds mixed in with the gems make no doubt... It's just crappy that WB/DC are the ones having to learn things the hard way at OUR expense.

They still have Wonder Woman coming up in 300 days and if that movie fails to inspire, then the DCEU can be considered a failure as well considering it'll be movie #4. And at that point they'll need to ask: reboot or step away from the comic movie realm altogether?

Suicide Squad looked terrible by the previews.  Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of posters on here who will love it.  That's their right.  They're not wrong by their own standards.  I thought BvS was pretty mediocre, particularly the "Oh, your mom is named Martha, too" bit.  Marvel absolutely has a few not so stellar films as well.  Overall the genre is glutted and these studios are attempting to cash in on this craze before the cash cow runs out of milk. But at least Marvel steps it up with standouts like Guardians of the Galaxy and Deadpool to mix it up for an audience who is honestly fatigued with seeing the retread of the universes, particularly a DC universe that can't keep continuity with its tent pool characters.

How many of us here are actually swayed by critics? Not me.

Rotten tomatoes has it at a couple points over BvS. So maybe it will score higher with audiences and have some legs.

I may see it tonight, sadly I have been pushing off Star Trek for three weeks now. But that is what hurt it I think. Horrible trailer, and the studio should have known that Into Darkness was always going to be bigger, the budget should have been smaller. 150 milllion.

Anyways, as long as Will Smith does not ruin Suicide Squad with his acting, then I should like it.

Was the last superhero he played related to Marvel or DC?

He actually does a pretty good job. Margot Robbie is also incredible. I wasn't expecting that she would be that good. The best Harley quinn ever. The film is awesome. I enjoyed Suicide Squad more than Star Trek.

Just got back from seeing it. Margot is great as Harley Quinn, Jared Leto is more Jack Nicholson than Heath Ledger, the story is pretty weak, but the movie is entertaining.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

Ehh, i'd say otherwise, Transformers age of extinction is one of the worst big budget films of 2014, if not the very worst of all the 2010's, yet it grossed over a billion. Box Office is meaningless when it comes to measuring the quality of a film.

In any case, critics shouldn't matter, their job is to nitpick.

I actually really liked AoE lol

Saw it, holy shit what a trainwreck, lol.

This movie is all over the place, barely coherent at times, by the end of the movie it feels like a Mummy film (and if you're saying "what the fuck?" ... exactly). The tone of the film is just ... it feels like 5 different movies of 5 different genres crapped out together.

I did not like Jared Leto as the Joker at all, the tatooes and teeth grill are just all stupid and he's doing a weak imitation of Heath Ledger and TAS Joker ... kinda. His face just doesn't work for the part for me either, he's the weakest Joker.

Harley Quinn, ok I mean logically she's in the group because she's sexy as she has no powers whatsoever, but they really tried a bit too hard to give her a lot of "fanboy badass" moments after a while it feels manufactured like "oh now lets cut to Harley so she can say something funny/cute/be sexy for the 50th time".

Will Smith was alright.

There are some entertaining moments and it does start to find its legs as the team starts to gel a bit, but it the plot is just so stupid. If you want to feel like what a movie would be like if it was written by a six year old, watch this movie because that's exactly what it feels like, lol.

The villian is probably the biggest problem with this film it/she/whatever is so bad it's almost funny by the end of the movie.

Batman Vs. Superman was better so was Man Of Steel. SS has some flash to it, but man it's just riddled with a million problems, that script should've been thrown out.

Seen a lot of contrasting opinions on this movie. Everything from god awful to wtf are the critics thinking. Suggests to me that it's most likely down to the mindset people are going into it with. Do you want a flashy summer blockbuster? My guess is it's probably an enjoyable movie. Looking for some plot heavy expansion of the DC movie universe to flesh things out and rectify the perceived wrongs (whether you agree with them or not) of what came before? Probably gonna be very unsatisfied.

How did you like BvS?

BvS wasn't very good. Suicide Squad is better.  The story is weak, but the film is highly entertaining.

I havent seen the movie yet, but I will very soon and I'm exited!
I liked both BvS and Warcraft despite Critics slamming them so I stand be my decision to just watch it and make up my own mind.
Until now that worked pretty well, giving me two good movies I would have missed otherwise!

The new guy.

Sorry for possible mistakes, not a native speaker!

Start by saying that I thought Man of Steel was OK (6 out of 10) and B VS S was a bit less at the theater (5 of 10) but the extended edition made it better (6 of 10)

I went to SS on Thursday night after seeing the rotten tomatoes number being low. It lowered my expectations quite a bit. I think that helped, as I agree that the movie itself was riddled with a broken plot, and obvious fanboy eye candy. BUT, i did enjoy the movie overall (7 out of 10).

Leto's Joker was a secondary character and it matched the look and feel of the "modern" joker the movie was aiming for. I thought he would not really fit in with even Affleck's Batman that they want us to take seriously. So, not sure how he will work in a Batman movie.

Will Smith was basically the leading male character of this movie and if anything, he was the glue to make this movie at least a little believable. You can't have EVERY character be an off beat freak and have the audience stay connected to the story.

Margot Robbie did what they wanted, she was hot or cute at the right times and crazy as hell too. She was slightly over used by the end of the movie, but it didn't really hurt the movie. Her character is kind of like frosting on a cake, and this cake had a tad too much. If the planned Harley Quin movie is made, it will most definitely be hard for it to work unless the script is perfect and the supporting characters will need to be REAL strong.

Go see the movie, it was worth it.

It is near the end of the end....
