You don't see how to play an iphone on a TV?

There's how.

Looks super intuitive and not expensive at all, you only need a 1000$ phone, and Aple TV, and Hdmi and a gamepad for Iphones (if there is one), then you can play all the unique masterpieces made for Ios in all its glory on your TV.

Might cost a lot for Apple phones, but it's pretty damn cheap to do it on Android, the #1 phone OS in the world (and by quite a lot.)

Also, this thing is not going to be "substantially" more powerful than the Wii U.  Substantially would get you around XBO terroritory.  If this thing is going to basically be a tablet with controllers, you would be lucky to get about half the power of an XBO.  Not unless Nintendo wants to put out a console that costs at least $100 more than the PS4 does now, which would be suicide.

Dude, are you like a 70 year old grandma?  You plug a 10 dollar adapter into your phone, and an hdmi to the TV.  It's not open heart surgery, and probably more intuitive than the rumored NX.

An Apple TV is 100 bucks, and people are going to have the phone anyway, which is 2-300 with a contract.  And it's also a phone.

And, if you have an Android phone (which you should) then it's significantly cheaper, and you can stream wirelessly with a 20 dollar or so Chromecast.

And this is what's available now.  It's only going to get cheaper and easier.  I'm pretty sure that there are TVs that can wirelessly mirror phones out of the box.  If there are not, I'd be absolutely shocked if they don't exist within 2 years.

also seriously doubt many 3rd parties are going to make ports for such an underpowered device.

I would say its more important for Nintendo to converge the support of 3DS & Wii U into a single device than to get ports of PS4/XBO games.

Full support of Nintendo+strong Japanese support+strong indie support+strong family friendly support is likely what such a device will have, mainstream western titles are probably just a bonus for them.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

And this is what may kill console gaming, and is going to kill nx out of the gate

don't like it. Portable gaming just isn't as convenient. I like to game at home only.  Was really hoping Nintendo would return traditional and recapture that 64 magic.

both options, but you don't like it cause you want one option.

This very much: a lot of people stress third party support but third party support isn't going to do much to convince someone with a PS4 or X1 or a PC to buy an NX. It's the first-party offerings that will do that and changing their focus from currently two platforms (3DS and WiiU) to one (NX) going forward would be the wisest move Nintendo could make.

As for chasing powerful hardware, that battle has been won long ago by PC and will continue to be won by PC. It's better for Nintendo to just focus on making unique, awesome games that you can't get anywhere else.

Just when I thought there was no way Nintendo could not find a way to lure me back in. The only hope i have left is that there is a way to do multiplayer on both the television and the hand held ala Wii U.

I have repeatedly said over the last year that I believe NX will be a hand held. Nobody believed me. I was even banned from one website over my opinion. I am super excited if this is true. Knowing Nintendo, there will be many surprises to come.

I most definitely want backward compatibility though. At least with 3DS titles.

If it has that ARM CPU, then DS/3DS backwards compatibility (or Virtual Handheld) is probably possible.

No, not really. ARM CPUs aren't like x86. If it's going to be an ARM CPU like those used in smartphone for the last couple years or so, then no. They have new instruction sets and don't cary the old ones like x86. Even if they were capable, there would be stability problems due to high clockspeed todays CPUs vs 3DS measly 266MHz(??). Virtual handhelds, sure, but then you'll most likely need a new version of the game (like nintendo's virtual console).

If it can sell 15-20 million in Japan, it will get a ton of Japanese support and all Nintendo support concentrated on one platform plus probably Android apps and lots of indie games.

That's enough software support.

Nintendo is never going to win with the Western "dudebros" crowd, they are set with Sony or Microsoft and that's that, the only way they would get this audience's attention is with an 8 TFLOP machine, which would be the size of a PC and a power brick the size of the Wii U console with a $600 price point.

They'd have to go to ridiculous extremes, they are not getting the GTA/Calladooty crowd, too late for that, the GameCube era basically decided that. Once MS decided they had nothing better to do than to waddle into another industry and just basically take up space like a fat soccer mom in an elevator, there wasn't room left for Nintendo to engage that same market.

Nintendo maaaaybe had a window of oppurtunity if it was just the PS4 and XB1, but now with Neo/Scorpio clogging up the market, nope. This direction will work better for them at least this is something different and it can dominate the Japanese market and do OK in the West/Europe.

Two removable controls on each side...

Sounds alot like this patent from late 2013.
