I would say its more important for Nintendo to converge the support of 3DS & Wii U into a single device than to get ports of PS4/XBO games.
Full support of Nintendo+strong Japanese support+strong indie support+strong family friendly support is likely what such a device will have, mainstream western titles are probably just a bonus for them.
When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.
