Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Which Nintendo console had the best launch lineup?

The one with the best launch games was...

NES 11 5.37%

SNES 59 28.78%

N64 39 19.02%

GCN 28 13.66%

Wii 54 26.34%

Wii U 14 6.83%

Total:205

Wii takes it in my opinion.

The one-two punch of the dark, epic successor to Ocarina that fans had been crying out for for years, plus the phenomenon that was Wii Sports was a dynamite combination. Excite Truck was pretty fun as well.

Can we all agree that Launch titles of games seems really important to nitnendos success?

Those gens they had strong launch titles they did better, than the gens without.
That makes them takeing time to make sure they have games for the NX launch, seem like a wise choice.

Pretty much; launch with a killer app, sell decent to great. Launch without one, sell poorly.

N64 definitely :D

Oh launch lineups?  damn. probably Wii.  Twilight Princess was fire

Anime and Studying is life RN

Can the Answer be none? Most console launch lineups suck. I guess SNES

NES is the best Nintendo console ever and my personal favorite but SNES had the best lineup. Wii had Zelda, but it was the inferior waggle version. Gamecube had Rouge Squadron 2 and Luigi's Manson... which was pretty decent. But overall, the SNES takes the cake.

Probably SNES, but the GC is a close 2nd... besides Luigi's Mansion, it also launched alongside Star Wars Rogue Squadron II and Waverace Blue Storm, and then both Melee and Pikmin followed just a couple weeks later.  It also had solid 3rd party titles at launch like Super Monkey Ball, Tony Hawk 3, SSX Tricky and Extreme G III.

N64 wins for best overall launch title ever in Super Mario 64, but the overall launch lineup and library for the first few months on the market was a whole lotta weak sauce.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Wii, undoubtedly. It was also, probably, the best lineup for a Nintendo console period. At least since the SNES:

Mario 64 was not only masterpiece at launch, it was one of the best games of that generation. Mario 64 is the best game on that list. N64 with ease.

And killer apps is another advantage the Wii had over all of Nintendo's other consoles. Twilight Princess and Wii Sports, and then Super Mario Galaxy in the near future. Plus the Wii was packed with a gigantic variety of games that was lacking on the other consoles to that degree during their launches. It was a very exciting time period to be a Nintendo fan.

It depends how we define launch. If we mean launch window (ie. 1 year after console release) then the N64 had by far the best lineup: Mario 64, Wave Race, Mario Kart 64, Star Fox 64, Goldeneye. If we are only talking about launch week, however, I would probably have to say Wii.
