Forums - Sony Discussion - PS4 Neo Could Be 5.5tf ($399 - $599)

This source is completle bullshit. Neo will be exactly what previous information we had says. 4.5 teraflops etc, +500mb shared ram, higher clock cpu and ram etc.

Price is completly unkown.

Jim Ryan refers to that as a 'rumour' so it's just a matter of 'wait and see.'

I would get your expectations in check.  First of all, I think the console makers are sticking with AMD.  They offer better GPUs for the price and haven't screwed over any of the Big 3 like nVidia has.

2nd, Nintendo has already said they aren't trying to compete in specs. And really they can't if they are trying to push a fusion console by including a handheld/controller in every box. I wouldn't expect anything over 2 Tflops, personally.  And if rumors are true, it'll be closer to 1.5 Tflops.

@ OP

I definitely believe Sony would have upped the clock to push their GPU to 5.5 Tflops, since it was rumored the 4.1 Tflops was only due to them underclocking it.  However, there is NO WAY they are pushing a $599 price.  That would kill the Neo right away.  That may be the price MS is going to try and push, but I fully believe the max Sony is going to go is $449-499.

I think you misread what I was saying. I was speculating and I clearly stated that it likely wouldn't happen.

As for going with 1.5-2 Tf? Really? You do know that while that might be cheaper in the short term, it will cost Nintendo more money in the long run like it did with the Wii U? contrary to popular belief. Out dated hardware tends to be harder manufacture and needs to be special ordered by AMD. The manufacturing issues with the Wii U comes as no surprise. Personally I think it would be better to go with a more modernized APU and don't get left in the dust again. If Nintendo wants their console to sell more than 20 million. It needs to have good specs or the average gamer won't have a damn about the system and claim that all the games are shit because the graphics look like shit.  I'd be really suprised and disapointed if Nintendo would repeat the same mistake.

I'd say I know far more people that think this way than doesn't. So they are losing on sales, and money. Especially on the software end of things.  As far as rumors go. It's all over the map. I've read one where it's claiming that it's a Pascal based GPU based on 1080 tech. Which is bullshit if I've ever heard it. Basically it would be double the Scorpio. So it's hard to trust any rumor. The most consistent one puts it about the PS4 mark. Probably not Neo's level, but it would be smart of them to do so. Of course Nintendo won't sell at a loss. Which is stupid given their software sales profits.

a 5.5 TF GPU makes a lot of sense now that MS said Scorpio would be 6 TF. If Sony release NEO 6-12 months before Scorpio, they will own also the "updated Console war".

I don't know if you can call $600 a win. Not to mention the fact that it doesn't do anything a $349 PS4 can already do outside of play 4k blu rays.

What? Where is that coming from? 1080p/60fps standard with all the next gen bells and whistles is what I'm expecting, as well as upscaling games to 4K and perhaps some native 4K games.

So its the same PS4 but with a better GPU and is somehow 599$? What complete bullshit. The GPU is pretty much guaranteed to be a RX480 chip witch is extremely cheap. If the CPU is the same one but overclocked then there is no way it can be 599$.

But it does the exact same thing a $349 system can do and nothing more than updated media playback. Is it worth another $600 to get the new system when it doesn't do anything new? I don't think it is.

They will regardless.

You appear to be just making stuff up. Let's call it a day.

$600 is way too high. It needs to be $500 or lower to have any chance of doing well.
