Why people are treating Xbox Scorpion, and PS4 Neo, as new Gen consoles ? they will just be the same consoles but more powerful, this isn't a new Gen, because all PS4 Neo, and Xbox Scorpion's games will have to run on previous consoles.

6 TFLOP vs. 1.2 TFLOP is basically pretty much a new generation device, it may have backwards compatibility but that's basically bordering on a new generation, that's a massive hardware leap.

XBox 360 (250 GFLOPS) to XBox One (1.2 TF) is a 5x performance leap, XB1 (1.2 TF) to XB Scorpio (6 TF) is pretty much the same leap.

Even the PS4Neo surprised me, 4 TFLOP console for $299 this year is pretty insane.

Is just a more powerful version isn't the Backwards i'm talking about, all the previous version must run the same games, you don't see Xbox 360 runing Xbox One's games but this will be a rule with those new machines.

You seem to be under the assumption that Nintendo was ever in competition with Sony and Microsoft. Neo and Scorpion will have zero effect on NX sales.

And thats a bad thing not a good thing. NX is only selling to Nintendo fans again.

If it gets support form third party developers I think it's gonna be alright. It'd be a great option if you could buy a console that will play all of Nintendo's exclusive games plus whichever multiplatform games like Dark Souls, GTA or Witcher or whatever is in the market at that time.

i think NX was going to have trouble regardless but...

...the advantage for sony on iterative hardware is never having to hit the "reset" button each generation.  now my investment is in playstation the gaming platform not the ps4 the peice of hardware that plays games.  with sony dominating the market now that domination kind of extends indefinetly.  it's not impossible to displace them but really hard.  very few people change between apple/android smartphones because of their investments in the platform.  it will now be the same with playstation and xbox.

I agree but there is one major difference between the smartphone market and the console market. In the smartphone market, the phones are substitutes for each other meaning that you could replace one with the other. It would not make sense to own both and apple and android because they carry out most of the same basic functions. Consoles on the other hand are different in the fact that it makes sense to own multiple. Instead of being faced with the question of upgarding the console or switching platforms, there is the question of upgarding the console or expanding the library with a new platform.

Realistically though how much developer support is the NX going to get with devs already on board with PS4 + PS4 Neo and XB1 and XB Scorpio, then there's Steam and VR to support also. Too many platforms for developers.

As long as Nintendo comes out with some stellar launch titles, it should be fine... but it's Nintendo, so probably not.

I had a hard time justifying getting a WiiU even. Which is a frustrating, having grown up with the NES and SNES. I hate seeing them continuously shooting themselves in the foot just to make something "new" and "innovative".

The NX doesn't stand a chance with the way Nintendo went out with the Wii U.

I am 100% expecting it to be a bigger failure than the Wii U, unless it managed to somehow trigger the interest of the casuals.

At this point i think Nintendo would be better off cutting their losses and focusing on the portable market.

No, Nintendo isn't seeing themselves as direct competitors to PS or XB. And I prefer it that way.

I think the Nintendo NX OS will be unique in the sense that I think they are actually using Android or an Android underlay (similar to what Amazon does with their tablets), but this is more of a plus for the portable IMO, the console ... I don't think people really care about smartphone like functionaility on their TV.

AppleTV does OK for Apple but it's no where close to the success of an iPhone or iPad or iPod or even Macbook.

Could we hold off with these kind of threads untill we now what NX exactly is....
