When the rumours first started trickling through I was skeptical but ultimately was fine with the idea of an ordinary PS4 that was a little beefed to play 4K movie and upscale games to 4K with everything being the same, if it was anything more I wouldn't be happy.

But ultimately as we are now aware with almost undeniable leaks that it's quite a bit more than that and packs a far heavier punch than the current PS4.

Buttttt.... I get it, I see why it exists, people have been complaining about how underpowered these current gen consoles are, I haven't subscribed to that thinking as I have been very happy with my PS4's performance both and in game and the extreme upgrade in OS from the PS3 that makes the generation leap worth it as it is. But a boost in specs offering higher framerate and visuals is actually not a terrible idea.

I've come around to the idea of a Neo so much I think from this point every gen should probably have a .5 AS LONG as it is done like PS4 to Neo where there will be no exclusives and nothing changes for current owners, as technology is progressing so quickly, moore's law is still kind of in effect so consoles have to keep up and 6 years is too long.

I'll just sell my current PS4 when the Neo comes out so it end up not costing me that much.

alllllll aboaaaaaard!!! wooo wooooo...

I'm ready... with neo and Morpheus (psvr) I'm ready to plug in to the matrix :D

I think it more made me realize I should just buy gaming pc. After the initial purchase which costs a lot of money, it seems like it's going to be the cheaper choice in the long run, as consoles can't competitively price themselves anymore and there are more and more games (even "exclusive" console games) that find their way to PC.

In the end you get better vr, and better gameplay and performance.

Also, it really puts the "PS4 has the power to last 10 years" statements from people when it first released in perspective.

I like the idea of an earlier ps5 more. It just seems harder for developers.
Don't get me wrong I would concider one if the VR experience is better, but I would much rather have had sony just try to get the most out of the base box.

Personally, I wouldn't be happy about it, especially if games focused more on optimizing games on the 4K and if I had bought s PS4 recently. It would make me feel like buying the original console was a mistake and should have waited, but then again, who would have known? This is a weird move I'm not down with. But in the end, I'd just settle with the older model of a system. I'd hope this doesn't become a standard for home consoles.

I'm so use to other technology being upgraded so frequently I've come to accept the Neo.

However I bit surprised and displeased at first as this isn't something common in the console world.

But ultimately, if at the end of the day ALL PS4 can unite and play the same games then it's all good by me.

Damn! hold your horse man! There isn't any oficial revel, this thing may take 1 year or more to lauch... I get that NEO is, most likely, real, but it will take time for this "new and more powerfull PS4" to be in the market.

on side note.... well... i have a new cellphone every 2-3 years,so... why not upgrade a console every 3-4 years?

I guess I'm on board... only if my original console borks up and I need to replace it.

Yea, it's a first time in the home console space that a manufacturer releases a clearly stronger version of the same console, but I think the reason might be that Sony is very limited in how cheap they can make the current PS4.

They may simply not be able to shrink the current APU, which means it won't get any cheaper to produce. In which case Sony only has the option to use a different architecture which already is ready for use in a smaller process, yet simply using the exact same configuration could result in code written for the older tech to not run as efficiently on the new one > worse results.

Sony seems to circumvent that by using a clearly stronger configuration that can easily bruteforce their way to PS4 parity in games not patched/coded for the new architecture, while offering better image quality and/or framerates in comming games/patched games, so that they can even sell the PS4 Neo at higher prices > higher margins.

The PS4 Neo APU still should be smaller in size and once yields catch up that's the by far most important factor how expensive the chips are to produce, so the new stronger APU will probably end up being cheaper per unit and have more potential for price drops (I expect the normal PS4 to be phased out earlier than the Neo).
