Forums - Gaming Discussion - Opinion: Most Japanese developers need to go to mobile gaming.

No, that's not even a valid business model. Being a mobile only developer means you'll be fighting in an overbloated market where you might have a few success and then fade into obscurity.

Most Japanese devs are quite healthy (except for Capcom, but that's their own fault for pulling BS for so long (and I hope EA goes the same way, but I wouldn't want Capcom to die))

EA is like the biggest 3rd party publisher.

Yes, cause more mobile games will automatically solve the problem at hand.

I fail to see how this is a true solution.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

A lot of it has to do mainly with Japanese devs not giving us what we want :o. We want games like persona/Chrono Trigger/ Final fantasy/Dragon Quest. Not FPS, not some HacknSlash game, Not anime weabo stuff. We want it like the old days, and the numbers prove that. When there is a good JRPG like Ni No Kuni or even the recent Digimon Cyber sleuth, the numbers tend to show "Oh hey....If we make games like we use to, We can actually make money".
As for mobile games, If they want to they can, I mean there's no real issue with it, but most publishers/devs don't really understand how to make money, so I find them failing to make any real cash, maybe a few millions here and there, but thats not really that much for a company.

I know, but I wouldn't shed a tear if EA crashed and burned. Hell, I want EA to slowly fade away into obscurity one day.

They should make better games and stop releasing the same shit all the time.

On a serious note:No

Not only are you wrong about them selling bad, and there are several cases that proves you wrong(Monster Hunter, Bloodborne, Souls Series, Resident Evil, Final Fantasy, Persona 5(most likely),Nintendo games in general, Metal Gear Solid 5,and so on), but making the same franchises for smartphones wont necessarely make them sell more or more popular.

So yeah..... bad idea.

You have to factor in how much they spent making these games and how much time was put into it. Capcom was very dissapointed in resident evil 6 sales and FF lightning returns sales was mediocre. Those games are on a huge decline just like Street fighter.  Even Konami the makers of MGS5 are leaving the console industry for mobile.

But when companies have unrealistic expectations from a game, even when it has sold great(like Tomb Raider reboot for example. When it was around 6 million units sold Square had deemed it "weak"), thats not selling bad, thats just being idiot thinking every game needs to sell mario kart or GTA levels.Being in decline dosent mean having bad sales.Everything will be in decline in some point.Just abandoning it because it stopped giving the same profit for one moment isnt resonable or wise.

And as people said, the overall quality is not as good as before. Its not nearly as bad as some people make it seem to be, but there is room for improvement. When you make excellence, people buy.No need to jump ship

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Its not that.Gamers dont mind new things.Actually, I hope they keep producing new ideas and innovate, because eventualy things would get old, the problem is that:A)They dont make as many quality games as they did in the past. And thats the problem when they do new IPs, is that they are not as good as they should be.And B) They try to reinvent completely stabilished IPs, like RE being an action adventure instead of survival horror, DMC, and many more.

The problem lies in quality, not diversity.

Hell to the fuck no.

...no.

I'm now filled with determination.

No. Japanese games aren't as big as they used to, but most of them are still profitable and high quality. If some companies are having problems is because of mismanagement (like Sega execs rushing some of the recent Sonic games, all the Capcom problems during 7th gen with on-disc DLC, Konami's actions in general...).

You know it deserves the GOTY.
