On a serious note:No

Not only are you wrong about them selling bad, and there are several cases that proves you wrong(Monster Hunter, Bloodborne, Souls Series, Resident Evil, Final Fantasy, Persona 5(most likely),Nintendo games in general, Metal Gear Solid 5,and so on), but making the same franchises for smartphones wont necessarely make them sell more or more popular.

So yeah..... bad idea.

You have to factor in how much they spent making these games and how much time was put into it. Capcom was very dissapointed in resident evil 6 sales and FF lightning returns sales was mediocre. Those games are on a huge decline just like Street fighter.  Even Konami the makers of MGS5 are leaving the console industry for mobile.

But when companies have unrealistic expectations from a game, even when it has sold great(like Tomb Raider reboot for example. When it was around 6 million units sold Square had deemed it "weak"), thats not selling bad, thats just being idiot thinking every game needs to sell mario kart or GTA levels.Being in decline dosent mean having bad sales.Everything will be in decline in some point.Just abandoning it because it stopped giving the same profit for one moment isnt resonable or wise.

And as people said, the overall quality is not as good as before. Its not nearly as bad as some people make it seem to be, but there is room for improvement. When you make excellence, people buy.No need to jump ship

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.
