Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo is treating Amiibo as On Disc DLC

I do think how they are treating Amiibo is getting a bit out of hand, but moreso with the Wolf Link rather than Ganondorf Amiibo :p

I have a hard time shitting on Amiibo. The dlc they unlock is pretty consistently garbage, so you shouldn't ever feel left out and they are actually extremely well made, especially when compared to the shit they are competing with. Have you ever seen a skylander? Absolute garbage. Same with the Legos and Disney stuff.

I don't think that the x4 damage locked with Ganondorf is meaningful enough to make a fuss about it. Plus I'm certain that mode wouldn't even exist without Ganondorf amiibo. They're just sticking some functions in amiibos to make their purchase justified and more valuable.

The only toy i want is the cloud toy when it finally comes out 😜

People are making too much of a hasstle about this. What Nintendo is trying to do with the amiibos is really cool in my opinion, even though they didnt do anything truly good so far.And with a few exceptions, like Splatoon case, i felt that Amiibos were mostly dealt in a good way. Many of its features wouldnt even be implemented in the game in the first place, because they were planned with the amiibo in mind, not the other way around. The Ganondorf example is pretty clear. They needed to think what the amiibos would activate, and since Ganondorf is, well, evil, i guess they though that increasing even more the damage would be a good idea.It was not already in the game and then they though to put it behind the amiibo.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

I disagree that what's locked behind Amiibo is fundamental. It's not fundamental at all, the game is complete without the extra levels. It would be like saying only the remaster with extra content is the complete experience the game has to offer. Last gen got royally screwed if that was the case.

It's extra content, not as big of a deal as let's say ME3. Where Bioware decided that after 2 full games of talking about the mysterious protheans, they would make the prothean mission and character day one dlc. And the content felt fundamental to the game once you played with him as your partner and realized how much the dialogue changes the experience.

I see no reason to be upset over extra content that doesn't affect the experience of the game much. Like the Splatoon Dlc, sounded cool 'til you buy the Amiibo and realize the extra content wasn't a big deal at all.

In Nintendo's defense.....they need the money?

They were geniuses when implementing this idea.

As much as I dont like the content being locked/day 1 DLC w/e you call it - have to say they did something that makes all other DLC practices put to shame XD (in terms of creating something that will hook people into collecting and providing content).

It definitely tops it as the most creative DLC ever to be released onto the market.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Is the content already on the disc? Yeah
Do you need to make an additional purchase to unlock it? Yeah

Sounds like on disc DLC. Now I'm not saying there is anything wrong with that, but yeah its 100% on disc DLC
