Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Opinion: As earlier NX releases, as bigger are the chances it wont be what your waiting for.

So many people are still believing in / hoping for an NX release Nov´16.

I think an NX release ´16 will be horrible for all of us.

What do you expect from NX? You want an real console, a competition for Ps4/xbox one with games like: F-Zero, Metroid Prime, Zelda and co right? Probl with good third party support?

Im sure this wont happen in 2016. It would ne stupid.

NOBODY would buy a competiter to ps4/xbox one in 2016.

Many of my friends just got an ps4, do you know why? Because many of their friends had an ps4 already so they could play online together. Thats the main reason many people are purchasing a console.

In 2016/2017 there will be the ps4 with an installed hw base of ~50mio units vs the NX with probl ~5 Mio Units. People wont get the NX because they dont know other people who got it.

This was exactly the same sceanrio the wii u ran into in 2012. It was the strongest console in 2012/2013q3. But nobody bought it or bought the third party games for it. They got them on ps3/xbox 360 because that was were their friends at.

So the only possibility NX will release 2016 is: We will get another Wii. A console aimed heavily on the casual market. No Metroid Prime, No F-Zero, but Just Dance, Wii Sports and Wii Fit.

Do you still want NX to be released 2016?

Please expain the relationship between an early release and casual games, can't connect those dots together.

The best possible scenario would be to have a Wii 2, THAT would be a day 1 for me.
I really don't get the logic in the OP; look, if you really want to play Playstation games, you just go on and buy one and play the games on it, it's not like you did not have the option to do so. Does anyone really care about the third parties? I mean the third parties, in practise, are Activision with Call of Duty and EA with it's sports games. All the other meaningful publishers are Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft.

In any case, the longer it takes for NX to be released, the more far off the expectations will be.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

They can't win by launching within the Xbox 1 and especially PS4's lifetime. By the time the "NX" comes out there wll be well over 50 million PS4's around the world and something like 25 million Xbox 1s, so essentially Nintendo would be going up against a combined userbase of close to 80 million and growing. Even if they do manage to get COD/Assassin's Creed/Destiny/FIFA/Battlefield etc, the userbase/online community will be tiny compared to PS4/X1. In contrast, the later they launch, the closer the PS5/Xbox 2 launches will be. Dreamcast suffered from this with the PS2's looming launch causing doubt in potential buyers. Catch 22.

Unless they happen to hit it big with some gimmick, they aren't going to get big sales in my honest opinion. Dropping support for the Wii U will burn alot of their existing fans also. It's looking bleak.

Why would they buy a competitor in 2017 or 2018? There are just more games available for the two and every reason you used to prove your point, just shouts for an early release before even more people have PS4's so that more of their friends could play online with other PS4 users.

the OP wants a traditional console (like ps4).  nintendo releasing a traditional console in 2016 when ps4 is the "it" product with an install base approaching 50 million would be stupid for nintendo,.. they'd get slaughtered.  therefore if they are launching in 2016 they must be launching a product that is entirely non-traditional like the wii.  the wii only had casual games.

I feel like it won't matter that much, cause even if the NX doesn't come out till late 2017, there are going to be a lot of expectations that the NX will have to fill as a result.

Honestly, I'm not sure what Nintendo can do to convince mass amounts of people to move over their next platform.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Nintendo can't do anything in that regard. Playstation home consoles have had way bigger installbases than Nintendo in almost all gens compeeting (with the exception of the Wii, and even then, 20m difference in systems with 100m and 80m units sold isn't that big of a deal).

Outselling the PS4 is not an objective, having a relevant console on the market is. The 3DS is quickly dropping and even then it usually sells two times more units than the WiiU. Nintendo needs relevant hardware in the market to push their software. As long as there is a big enough userbase for their software, compeeting with PS4-XBone won't be the priority. Even if the NX just sells 60m with HC and HH combined, and it gets replaced at the same time as the PS5, if they manage to sell their software and keep the attach rates, they will consider it a great gen.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

If they want the masses to move on their next platform, they just choose tha arcade route they did with Wii and DS. Currently there's no competition on the market.

NX is going to a different philosophy anyway than what we are used to in the console market.
