Forums - Gaming Discussion - Why do people want Link to be a girl?

It's so weird because you don't see anybody asking for a male Samus.

that's because everyone knows you could see his junk when he's wearing the Zero Suit.

hmm...

.- -... -.-. -..

People have their reasons I suppose but I'm personally not very enthusiastic about having a female Link. I wouldn't go berserk but I'd definitely see it as a huge lost opportunity to create a female Link when you can make a game starring Zelda instead. Not only would that be a great way of making a Legend of Zelda game with a female protagonist, it would also be a good opportunity to put a twist on the formula.
Creating a female Link would also open the door for a male Zelda, because I'm quite sure those highborn people get sons once in a while, and the thought of a male Zelda doesn't make me very happy either.

Stick to your guns Nintendo.

I bet the Wii U would sell more than 15M LTD by the end of 2015. He bet it would sell less. I lost.

I always say rather than make Link a girl just use Zelda and make her a hero.

Because people want to play as "awesome" female protagonists in their video games.

They would play something like Metroid, Tomb Raider, Final Fantasy, Mirror's Edge, Portal, Fatal Frame, Fire Emblem, Alien: Isolation, The Last of Us, The Walking Dead, Resident Evil, Remember Me, Persona, Shantae, Child of Light, or any of the other many, MANY games with female protagonists... but they're all misogynist.

Love and tolerate.

Hmm...

I've heard of worse ideas.

Love and tolerate.

For me, it just removes believability to the point of unreachable. Even in games like Halo where it's story is set in an extreme future and rooted in sci-fi, the idea of a female being strong enough to take down armies, or have the testosterone levels to push hard enough to do it, is ludicrous. The only case scenario where it would make even a slim bit of sense is when she's genetically modified but when you have games like Halo 5 where the female spartans have extremely feminine bodies, void of the effects of strength and muscle, it again, fails miserably.

There's a reason why the worlds armies are almost exclusively male. Evolution did not intend for women to physically compete against men. Mentally? Sure. But not physically.

Well...this isn't really an intellectual situation. Its a sales one. As time goes on men generally buy less, but female sales tend to stay streamline even as they age into their middle years and even more when they have kids. They consume more on behalf of two people more often than not. Its wise to market to them industry as the male gamers are getting older and less apt to make as varied choices as they did when they were children. Its a revolving door but more females grew up with games today than ever before. Why shouldn't we follow the market?

Equality and being able to 'customize' your character, or having a change probably
