Week 44, 2015 (Oct 26 - Nov 1)

October:

October was a slow month as I mentioned last time, with few notable releases, it was far from the disastrous May so not the worst month of the year, but probably the most uneventful.

God Eater: Resurrection on Vita was the best selling game of the month with PS4 being the best selling hardware, which is what was expected, apart from that the games released on the month did alright, Zelda, 7th Dragon and whatnot, as I said not bad but not really all that either.

Apart from that the usual suspects, Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer, Yokai Watch Busters and Splatoon had another great month, Super Mario Maker also kept a good performance; the big surprise was Minecraft on Vita missing the list for the first time, it still sold well it was just pushed away by the larger releases.

Metal Gear Solid V on PS4, which was last month biggest games missed the list entirely, the game sold less than Minecraft for the whole month.

On software by platform it was a slow month with a considerable drop from September with the 3DS selling most software once again, not really much else to say regarding that.

PS4 had a great month on hardware, it was the most sold system even when combining all 3DS models, the price cut did a great push for the system, it should keep a great pace for the rest of the year. With no notable releases Vita did alright too, and with no releases at all so did WiiU.

What to expect next month?

Plenty of new releases coming out on November, arguably the biggest game of the year, Monster Hunter X (3DS) is coming out on the 28th (2 days of tracking), it'll be the best selling game of the month, on other big releases there's Call of Duty: Black Ops III (PS3/PS4/XB1) came out on the 6th (24 days of tracking) and Disney Magical World 2 (3DS) on the 5th (25 days of tracking) should be the ones that follow Monster Hunter X, COD in particular is getting a big promotion by Sony with a bundle and all PS4 should be the best selling version, Disney is bundled too, but that should be a slow burner that sells through the rest of the year so don't expect a huge performance for the month.

On more middle tear games there's Assassin's Creed: Syndicate (PS4/XB1)  and Project X Zone 2: Brave New World (3DS) both on the 12th (18 days of tracking) and Star Wars: Battlefront (PS4/XB1) on the 19th (11 days of tracking) you might be saying to yourself "How is Star Wars a middle tear game?!" Well while Star Wars is pretty big in Japan the games never were, the game should do alright but don't have huge expectations.

3DS and PS4 are both getting some pretty notable games, and the race for the best selling hardware is between the New Nintendo 3DS LL and the PS4 so those will be the systems to keep an eye on, no predictions on what will be the best selling hardware, it really is up in the air this time, for me at least.

With the delay of Kancolle Vita is getting no notable releases, WiiU on the other hand is getting a whole 7 games! (2 are rereleases but whatever) however from those only 2 are noteworthy, Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival on the 21st (9 days of tracking) and Taiko no Tatsujin: Atsumete Tomodachi Daisakusen! on the 26th (4 days of tracking) the big news for the system is of course the Splatoon bundle which is coming out on the 12th, that should lift both hardware and software sales, should be an alright month for WiiU.

Alright so this table is new, you might remember a different table where I tracked software data off of Famitsu, problem was that didn't include all software and was as a whole very faulty, then I remember that Dengeki gives weekly software too and I figured I don't use anything from Dengeki so this should work. Compare this table to the one used last month and you should see a big difference, mainly on PlayStation platforms, this will be the one used from not on.

Dengeki's tracking doesn't go as far back as the launch of the 3DS, and obviously not the PS3's either that's why on LTD there's a n/a, there's just no data.

Monster Hunter X will be joining this list next month with a very high chance of topping it, Pokémon may knock Zelda down a spot which then should leave the list with Monster Hunter.

Once again, this list isn't changing.

Call of Duty, and maybe Star Wars should join the list next month, The Witcher 3 had a great run, it almost undoublty outsold Yakuza 0. Call of Duty will be above Yakuza, and has a high chance of topping Bloodborne.

God Eater: Resurrection barely misses the list, Tokyo Xanadu got lucky and will have a brief stay on the list, Minecraft keeps getting further and further away from the rest.

Monster Hunter X will be joining this list Fire Emblem had a nice stay.

Halo 5 was unable to top The Master Chief collection, only one week though, if it shows up on famitsu again it might be able to top it. Apart from that Rise of the Tomb Raider, Call of Duty: Black Ops III and Star Wars: Battlefront might be part of it too.

Let's do a game with this one.

1 out of every 2 games sold in Japan this year was a 3DS game.

1 out of every 7 was either a PS3 a PS4 or PSV game.

1 out of every 10 was a WiiU game.

1 out of 435 was an Xbox One game.

This chart makes it very clear how important the 3DS is to the market.

How do you know it wasn't intentional?

Because in total five of the games on those lists are from 2014.

Also it would be an insult to XCX to rank Mario Party over it.

Great job! Super Mario Maker will probably show up on the best-selling games of the year table next month.

Wonderful thread as always, Kylee! :P

MHX will make a big splash next month. Wonder how Amiibo Festival will do (I don't expect big numbers, but it will still be interesting). I hope SMM manages to crack into the top 10 selling games of the year, but either way it won't last long due to Monster Strike's launch in December.

Halo did like 7k which is good for an x1 game. Expecting 25k by years end and 50k ltd in japan. Also splatoon is doing amazing and ps4 not slowing down..
