Rather than assuming my ignorance, did any of you actually look into what I was saying to see if it had any sort of truth? At all?

You ARE ignorant if you think that free to play and subscription-based MMOs is all you can play on the PC.

Everyone on this forum is so caught up in the sales and revenue side of things, that it clouds their judgement.  Regardless of the revenue from F2P and subscription-based, that does not translate to PC gaming being all about F2P.  Yeah, F2P and subscription MMOs can be addictive and require a lot of time. But the same can be said for Grand Theft Auto, or Call of Duty, or any other number of games.  And you can game on a PC for years without ever encountering a free to play game anyway. I know.  I'm living proof.

Unless it causes publishers to stop releasing games in lieu of F2P, those sales figures you posted mean absolutely nothing.

PC gaming requires too much of an investment in time and I regard it as an unhealthy psychological addiction

That's a blanket statement and a generalization.  You're letting the figures lead you to the conclusion that PC gaming is a wasteland of free to play and addictve subscription-based MMOs.  And while you CAN play those games on the PC, you can also play just about every AAA console game on them too.  You can play any number of RPGs (JRPGs, western RPGs, or otherwise), shooters, sandbox, indies, you name it.  Even that Call of Duty you like to pick up and play.  I can take my XBone or PS4 controller and plug it into my PC and start playing any kind of game I want.

I have no stake in this, but it bugs me when people generalize and spread misinformation as if it's fact. Often as an argument for some silly "console war" discussion.

Glad to hear you like it too. x ) Yeah, I love to put it on as background music sometimes. I love Boom Town Lounge as well as Useful Vacation. Really neat tunes.

My favorite by far is Distant High Life by far. But even after that, Battle Against a Familiar/Slow/Dancing/Intense Foe, The Green Run, and Hometown Strut are all fantastic. But my favorite pieces from this game will, far and away, be the ones which make you feel a bit uneasy. Like the music that plays then Travis is in his PJs in the beginning and Happy Days.

Shane Mesa is a musical genius. Same with Dani Person. This is coming from a fellow musician - it takes an extreme amount of disipline and talent to replicate feel while staying original. The composer of Mother 3 completely failed to do that, so it's absolutely insane to me that two literally random musicians came out of the wood work to make an original soundtrack that still feels distinctly "Eartbound."

I just hope the writing is up to snuff. That was a big issue for me when playing Mother 3 - the fan localization was mediocre. It wasn't good. I'm hoping this Pastel character is to the script what Shane and Dani have been to the soundtrack.

What you seem unable to understand--and honestly, I don't even know how this is possible--is that you do not have to play F2P games if you own a gaming PC.  You do not.  You don't have to play MMOs if you own a gaming PC.  I'm serious, you can look it up.  Why you think otherwise, I have no clue, but I'm telling the truth.

I. Know. That.

All of those kinds of PC games are already available on other platforms. The platforms that are, going back to my original post, more convenient and less time consuming.

To TLDR this ENTIRE thing, PC games fall into two categories - Games already available on consoles, or F2P/MMO's/RTS.  The only other thing would be small independant titles on Steam. There is no allure to me sitting in front of my computer screen playing games and the kind of unique games it offers are not to my taste, therefore if home consoles vanished, I would quit gaming.

^The exception being, if there was a steam box that could play Sony/Nintendo games and was the centerpiece of your home theater.

^^I felt like that was a silly question though because monopolies can't happen.

So your point is simply that being able to play games on your TV is more important to you than playing games at all?  Why didn't you just say so from the start?  Or do you mean that you ONLY like games if they're exclusives?

Eh.  Neither one is something I can understand but to each their own.

I'd play a lot less, but I wouldn't quit entirely. Besides, there are probably thousands of games in my backlog on past systems. I could probably go through the rest of my lifetime on past games alone.

It'll be awhile before I figure out how to do one of these. :P

I see you're still trying to spin what I'm saying.

I am just not interested in PC gaming. I think a console looks pleasing right under a 55" smart TV. They all play Blu-Ray out of the box. No disc drive upgrade. HDMI On/Off through a TV. They are all standard and you don't have to fuck with anything to make it work right. The fact that some third party games run like crap on one brand of graphics card but great on the other? Yeah that doesn't sound cool to me. Having to update drivers? Nah. Like I said, XB1 or PS4 are just way more convenient and there's no headache of having to mess with settings, worry about compatibility, buy endless peripherals, the boot times are much faster, it's simpler to load up a game. Pick up the console and it just works. Worst case scenario, an update comes along with it. The exclusive AAA games on top serve as icing and nothing else.

Yees, Distant High Life is also a good one. I've been wanting to say that about Shane and Dani for awhile now, haha. I really loved the work they put out for the game so far. I would look through the soundtracks of all the games to see if they came out anywhere, since they captured the style of the game so well. It surprises me how well they were able to make the music, although one or 2 tracks were borrowed since they are Mother staples.

I hope the writing is on par too. It's what I'm concerned about the most. Though it sounds like they picked people who specialize on writing, so I'm feeling confident the story and dialogue will be good as well. The team is aiming for perfection so I think they won't scimp on anything : )

Well it doesn't matter if the writers are good writers. What matters is if they are capable of staying true to the tone and style of Earthbound. Mother 3's fan localization wasn't mediore because the quality wasn't high, it was mediore because it didn't feel like Earthbound in style. Undertale is exciting because it seems to have that style of writing (with liberties, of course). I don't want good writing. I want good Earthbound writing. I'm cautiously optimistic, though. I think we won't know how good it is until it gets to the serious bits. If it takes itself too seriously in writing style, it fails.

I definitely think they'll try, though. My most anticipated game outside of Zelda, which is very sad in many ways for many reasons.

I'd go over to PC gaming.

I would definitely spend less time playing games if that ever happens
