Forums - Gaming Discussion - The Hololens development kit to arrive 1st quarter of 2016 for $3000.

http://www.kitguru.net/channel/generaltech/matthew-wilson/the-hololens-dev-kit-will-be-available-early-next-year/

"The Hololens development kit arrives during the 1st quarter of 2016 for $3000. That might sound like a huge number, but development kits for current generation consoles are also quite expensive. It will still be quite the investment for any serious developers looking to make use of the device."

"The Hololens is a completely untethered device, with no need for wires or even a dedicated PC, allowing for completely free movement. Microsoft is already taking developer applications for Hololens units, so those interested can try and get ahead of the crowd before launch next year.

No word on a consumer version of the Hololens just yet, but since the price for the development kit is so high, it could be a while before the device is fully ready for the mass market." - kitguru.

3000$ for a dev kit.... is alot.

When the oculus rift was kickstarted the dev kit there was 300$.

You guys think by 2017 there will be a consumer version of a hololens for under 500$ ?

Or is hololens futher off than that for normal users?

Hololens isn't meant as a consumer product...

I don't know why but I was REALLY hoping this would be consumer grade. I should've known, time to freeze myself for 5 years.

"Holograms are not just for creative people.

They can unlease the creativity in all of us.

remember the first time you experianced ms paint? or ms solitar? those timeless experiances let you discover what a mouse & keyboard world felt like.

In that same timeless fashion we wanted to let you disover what a holographic landscape feels like"

The ad makes it look like it ll be a every day household object, like a tv is today.

The spokesperson afterwards talks about it being a everyday object.

Hololens is pointless for companies. Nothing it does can't be completed faster and more efficiently with traditional peripherals. No CEO with half a brain will deal with this shit. As such its only use is for the mainstream consumer for lifestyle applications.

Teaching esp. in the medical field could probably put it to good use.

But I agree, its ment for mainstream consumers, that want a fun "new" tv (hologram form) & ability to spice up their home with fun holograms.

Its just not going to happend anytime soon, if dev kits are 3000$.

Let's play the game, "Where is the Market"?

That's not that much for a dev kit. It's slightly more than the PS4 dev kit. The price for the dev kit has little to do with the price of the product that follows.

A lot.

Gotta figure out how to set these up lol.

Never thought it was going to be a consumer or video game product. But it's sad for people dreaming about playing Minecraft like the E3 demo. And a few users here even thought it was coming for the Xbox One to counter the Playstation VR... MS just won the "most out of place E3 demo ever" award.

With this price, let's be honest. There won't be any video game for it except the few MS's ones. We're already worried about the VR success with 300-400$ devices...

EDIT : PS4 dev kit was indeed $2500, where PS3 started at $1000 and Xbox One apparently at $500. But Sony has been giving PS4 dev kits for free for at least 1-year periods. And it's a console (huge market and ROI), not a gadget (really small market, difficult ROI).
