They could have done what they did with uncharted, remastering all games in 60fps and 1080P and improve some minor textures

Yes but instead the put more work into it and remade all the assetts.

At the cost of 60fps, i dont even see the reason why it had to be remastered if they cant archive 60fps. Well at least PC gamers will get the 60fps

Well, you can't have both. Either "bells and whistles" or 60fps. And yes, some PC gamers will get the game at 60fps.

Around the Network

I had mixed feelings about 60fps after playing the beta. GoW1 plays a bit slower and clunkier than GoW3 and 60fps makes it feel unnaturally smooth at first. Some people in Gears forums are already complaining it's slower than original Gears, but I think this is because of framerate because UE plays quite similar to original.

In the end you get used to both framerates, I don't know which is ultimately better for Gears tho.

9 year anniversary and bringing the visuals up to date with current gen standards. NDC has last gen graphics.

How many times have you been corrected on this sort of thing? This level of ignorance has to be intentional.

Can you prove it isn't a port when a multitude of ports that come to other hardware have the same type of improvements?

A port is just adapting software so that it can be run on a system it wasn't originally designed for. It doesn't require any enhancements at all.

A remaster, is improving the presentation of an existing game.

Let me give you an example of each. Race the Sun on the PS4 is a port. It sees no upgrades from the PS3 version and is simply ported over to the new system.

The Last Of Us: Remastered is a remaster. It's the same engine and coding, but received improved textures, lighting, and models, on top of an improved frame rate and resolution.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

What of the Vita version? There's changes there in the negatives, it's not 1080p. Does that make the Vita version a "demaster" and not a port?

I accept that's criteria of a remaster.

If I can point out those differences on a 360 game vs. the PS3 version of the same game, does that make the 360 game a remaster? And if not, why?

As I said, it needs to be an existing game. Games that come out at the same time can't be remasters. For instance, Titanfall on the Xbox One isn't a remaster of the Xbox 360 version.

I think people are getting hung up on what a remaster is.

Frankly, who cares? Lets just say not all remasters are equal. I am more impressed by visual overhauls, but ports with moderately improved visuals and smoother performance are also appealing.

Well I'd argue 60 fps is pretty much always better. But many games opt for 30 fps and the games still play fine.

Frankly, GearsUE could have had vastly improved visuals over the original and still acheived 60 fps. To do so they would have to scale back the presentation or maybe just resolution, but it could still be a vast improvment over last gen.

I think a primary reason they set the bar at 30 fps is Gears 4 is aiming for 30 fps. They are opting for presentation over performance. Which is still common practice and acceptable this gen.

Those who are truly opposed to 30 fps should have powerful PCs.

You're gonna have to show me a pic of those improved models.  I got TLoU for ps3 and ps4 and I don't see it!

But Titanfall didn't release at the same time, it was Xbox One, then 360 later by a fortnight.

Secondly, Why is that then? It's got better effects, a better framerate, higher resolution and better models. It's the exact same criteria.

What's the difference between a remaster and a late port?

My mistake, the Digital Foundry article said that the cut-scene models were used during gameplay. They have since updated the article to say they aren't though.
