Let me give you an example of each. Race the Sun on the PS4 is a port. It sees no upgrades from the PS3 version and is simply ported over to the new system.

What of the Vita version? There's changes there in the negatives, it's not 1080p. Does that make the Vita version a "demaster" and not a port?

The Last Of Us: Remastered is a remaster. It's the same engine and coding, but received improved textures, lighting, and models, on top of an improved frame rate and resolution.

I accept that's criteria of a remaster.

If I can point out those differences on a 360 game vs. the PS3 version of the same game, does that make the 360 game a remaster? And if not, why?

I think people are getting hung up on what a remaster is.

Frankly, who cares? Lets just say not all remasters are equal. I am more impressed by visual overhauls, but ports with moderately improved visuals and smoother performance are also appealing.
