You shall be missed Smeags! You're my oldest friend on VGC and we still speak pretty much every day; you've helped me out a lot over the years and I'm sure you feel the same way as well. But time moves on, we get new priorities and if anyone deserves to be respected and acknowledged for their time and commitment in the site, it's you. So, thank you for everything you do and everything you will no doubt continue to do from here.

As for my three things, we've spoken about this far too much over the past few months so I'm not gonna embarrass you here any more. But I will say that we need to try and improve forum discussion and the quality of thread making; how do we do that? You know what I think, no doubt

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Around the Network

While Smeags isn't going anywhere, I wanted to take this opportunity to thank him for everything he's done as a moderator and as a member.

He's shown consistent support to the mod team and overwhelming enthusiasm for this community. He's demonstrated patience, good judgment, and empathy throughout his tenure.

And he's made these forums more creative, more engaging, and more fun - whether it's hosting the Annual Greatest Games Event (my favorite thread on VGChartz ), introducing us to wacky videos like "Sakaguchi's Final Fantasy" and "Too Many Cooks," or sharing with the community his gorgeous art work (seen below).

Thank you for everything so far, Smeags. This site wouldn't be the same place without you.

Youve been my inside man since long before I was on the team. Youve been my inside man since you ascended to head mod. Youve been my inside man, when Ive needed an inside man.

You have earned your rest. Its been quite the run.

Well damn, now I want to be inside you too..

Your posts have been one of the main drawing-points to this site for over 7 years now, so it's nice that you're not going anywhere.

Rather than applaud you for the effort you've done just the past few years, which I really know quite little of, I'll applaud you for the excellence you've brought this site every week for over 7 years now.

I understand where you're coming from, I myself am finding it hard to visit VGC as often as before as I'm getting busier and busier, so I feel you :(

You've been an awesome head mod! :)

and certainly my favorite user on here.

It wasn't too long ago when you became headmod. Time sure flies by.
1. Update the discussions or hot topics to something that works. Why is there no Books discussion? Why are so many of them not visible in the front page?
2. Let's make a staff tournament! Writers Vs Mods Vs Admins etc. (Ha, look at me calling myself staff)
3. Mobile version if the site!
I think I had other things in mind, but I can't remember any other than the first 2, and 3rd is a must.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

I'd be saying "so long," but since you're not going anywhere, I'll just say  "Good Job" and resume my scheming.

As for three things...

  1. The forums should be less isolated from each other. One way to do this might be to combine certain forums together. Not all smaller forums need this treatment, but I don't see why MMO's should not be included in PC Gaming or why Latest Charts is separate from Sales Discussion.
  2. The Games Database needs more people able to update it, at least with things like cover art and release dates. It could be more people given permission or a right given to trusted members in general. I suspect that I would fall into a trap of updating things for hours on end if given permission.
  3. Maybe mods could help highlight threads they find to be particularly high quality? There could be a "Best Threads this Week" post that gets updated with no and interesting conversations about different topics. It would help get people outside of their subforum bubbles, especially if made fairly visible.

Love and tolerate.

This is something I've been thinking about for a while. It's good to know someone else likes the idea :)

Congrats on a job well done. To be honest your three points are exactly what I wanted to say so Im copying and pasting here:

Improvement in the quality of discussion in gamrConnect. The quantity is there, we now need to encourage diverse game and game sales threads that drive positive, healthy discussion.
Greater focus on game-related discussion. Tournaments, events, group participation, etc.
Focus on the de-segregation of the forums. Different communities are either aggressive or defensive, and that leads these groups to not venture out and make the forums a melting pot of discussion and ideas.

I haven't read a damn thing in this thread, just stared at your Big Boss avatar.

Holy shit...that is glorious.

You really had a good run, Smeags! Good luck with everything. Regarding the 3 things, I've posted them ( and many others) in the Truck Stop thread. ConeyG should be aware of them!
