Forums - Gaming Discussion - Rise of the Tomb Raider to Fallout 4, We Are Not Scared

Rise of the Tomb Raider hits the shelves in November on exactly the same day as one of the most awaited game of the last few years i.e. Fallout 4. Does that make you think the former could have a hard time pulling sales it would otherwise?

If you ask the developers, they say they are cool with it.

On the topic of going head to head with Fallout 4 for release on November 10, 2015, Game Director Brian Horton said that they had nothing to fear about since the two games could be differentiated. The experience being offered by Crystal Dynamics is not what Bethesda is offering:

"We’re big fans of Fallout, it’s such a great game. But we believe we offer something completely different from a gaming experience point of view. We feel good about the date and the quality of the game will speak for itself."

Staying on point about the experience being offered, Horton added that Rise of the Tomb Raider cannot be attached to a specific type of experience since it offers a bit of everything to the fans like the previous installments in the series:

"We’re going to have something a little bit for everyone in here. And we want the player to feel like they can play the game the way they want. So if you’re a fan of more stealth-based gameplay you can play it that way, if you like more action it’s there also."

Was it a wise decision to choose that release date for Rise of the Tomb Raider?

Well you should be

Lol, it would be news if developers/publishers would admit "fear" for unreleased games.

I cannot imagine toilet-free life.

Kebabs have a unique attribute compared to other consumables. To unlock this effect you need to wolf down a big ass kebab really fast, like under 10 minutes or so and wait for the effect to kick in. If done correctly your movements should feel unbelievably heavy to the point where you literally cannot move at all.

Of course the two games can be differentiated: One is a candidate for GOTY and will sell millions of copies on three platforms, while the other will sell most of its copies come holiday 2016.

But I see why they are not afraid, they already got paid for the game, leaving MS to hold the bag.

Honestly if you want Tomb Raider more, you're going to get that. Same goes for Fallout. If you can afford both and want both, both will be bought right then. And some is going to prefer one over the other. So it really isn't that big of a deal.

What he's saying and what he's thinking are two different things. Still, it's almost always a publisher decision, so he has to do the best he can.

This is a perfect example of why the need to publish in October or November is so hard to understand, though. Tomb Raider is going to be eviscerated by CoD, Fallout 4, and Battlefront.

They won't see my money on either. Tomb raider may see on 2017.

Personally I will pickup Tomb Raider for Xbone before Fallout... My 4 year old loves watching Lara run around on the screen :) He was a big fan of the last Tomb Raider for PC.

They really should be. They could easily delay it for a week or even a few days.

I'm pretty sure TR will be delayed a week or two.
