Pokemon. Take that away and I honestly believe handhelds would collapse. They had no competition during the early years but pokemon has kept them alive.

How about Vita ? A handheld with better hardware, more interesting app & features
It wasn't as expensive (not in the longrun), went with micro SD cards, unlike Sony who went with the expensive proprietary ones, had 1st party game support, marketing up the wazoo and the handheld image for Nintendo being more popular in general.
Going to be fun to see those that didn't like the "no competition/shot themselves in the foot" examples on a certain related thread coming into here to take on that same example that they refused to listen to, already happened.
