It's to do with the sales of both Wii U and X1

Maybe I haven't been reading enough of these threads but I haven't seen so much hate coming out in one thread in a long time lol
OT: Good for PS4 they truly deserve it. But now the real game begins whether PS4 can maintain or increase the marketshare or does Nintendo and MS have the will power to fight back even harder.

Paying for online is standard, hardly a negative. There are plenty of brilliant exclusives for PS4, if you don't like them than that's your loss. But I can assure you there are plenty of people who do like them. So these 'negatives' are only for you. To the majority of people they don't even exist... |
Paying for online is and hopefully will always be a negative, no matter how good the actual console requiring you to pay for online actually is. One huge positive the PS3 had was free online, requiring one to pay for online will obviously be turned into a negative no matter how you see it. Sure most people will pay, but they they do care that their paying $50 more each year and some may have even gone to PC gaming because they don't want to pay those $50.
Good for Sony, but I do agree with some of the previous posters.
The competition this generation is WEEEEEEAK.
The Wii U is way behind the GameCube and for a long period was selling on par or even below the Dreamcast, just that it hasn't been fully discontinued.
Microsoft went out of their way to shoot themselves in the foot and are still only really relevant in the US market meaning Sony has virtually no competetion outside of the US.
I mean yes, last gen Sony/MS fought back hard, but that doesn't change that this cycle, the competition is laughably soft.
It's like bragging that you beat a little kid at basketball and then his older friend who's playing on a sprained ankle.
That's not Sony's fault, but lets be clear, they're not exactly meeting Nintendo or MS at their best here.
Remember the count down threads when WIi would reach 50% and selling 200 million units LOL.

Amazing, you are on this site since 2007 and you still think NPD = world.
Congrats for Sony, but...I don't think it reflects on an overly healthy industry if one system has more than 50% of the market. Then again the PS1 and 2 had this and they were great, so what do I know.
But there's no downplaying this achievement, you have to play the market and Sony have done this perfectly and provided what gamers want for the most part. For that they should be applauded, and this milestone celebrated.
I am very happy that I was able to contribute to that percentage. And also that my country is contributing in insane percentages, I am sure we are among those with 80%+ share.
Great! At least the numbers were finally added so the bitching can stop v.v
