Forums - Sales Discussion - Ps3 outsold WiiU in Europe this week.

This was something I always found to be interesting about EU. Nintendo doesn't seem to be very popular there...

Well to me it always seems the majority of people here only play games like Fifa, GTA and CoD. Guess what systems they're available on. And Playstation is a really strong brand here.

Especially Fifa is associated with Playstation (more so than xbox), Playstation being a major sponsor for major football competitions like the Champions League. It won't be cheap but it's very effective advertising. Wii U doesn't even get Fifa anymore.

Maybe is because Nintendo did a terrible work with earlier Nintendo consoles on Europe, their marketing was pretty lame. They did a great job with their handheld though, and now people keeps playing their handhelds and ignoring the consoles. Same as always.

Did you expect something different?

I'm now filled with determination.

I can only speak for me... but with no 3th party game, the only nintendo game who interest me is new zelda (not out) X (not out) fire emblem (not out) and no real new rpg after more than 2 years, i really have hard time to see why buy wiiu now unless you like all mario combo

Easy OP its because your analysis is wrong, the PS3 still has plenty of games coming out on it, probably more than Wii U on a monthly basis.

Most importantly its got the big yearly franchises coming out on it.

Yeah, it makes me wonder if Ninten did something outright terrible to turn people away. Though I don't much about the environment there, nor Nintendo's history in EU, and it doesn't seem like it would be a quick simple answer give. Oh well, it still makes me wonder...

And also Japan, but the Europe numbers really bother me.

Why won't people buy the WiiU? The Ps3 doesn't even have games coming out anymore. It's kind of sad.

I'm a big proponent of discontinuing last gen consoles when the new ones release. Its unfair and people need to get with the times. If you want a last gen console buy it used from Craigslist or EBay.

Thoughts?

PS3 still has games coming out.  I'm highly anticipating Yakuza 5 to be released later this year outside of Japan.  As well there are still numerous 3rd party games that are being released for current and last gen ie. Persona 5, CoD Advance Warfare, im sure EA sports games too.  Those games alone can be more appealing than Wii U's library.   Also don't forget the insane PS3 library, large online community still (yes there's still alot of people playing online on PS3), and with PS Plus there's still the benefits and free games.  And then there's also the feature of it being a Blu-ray/DVD/media player.

Personally, if a person that doesn't have a PS3 or a Wii U (or has no gaming system at all) and had to choose one of the two at their current state it's in now, clearly the PS3 is the smarter choice.  Cheaper and offers way way more.  There's nothing unfair about this.

WiiU doesn't have a lot of upcoming games either...

Historically, Europe has never been overwhelmingly great for Nintendo home consoles. It was always a SEGA territory, followed by Sony. This is no surprise when you consider the overall libraries of the two consoles and the historic trends of European gamers.

When the PS3 actually gets a pricecut, it should be pushing pretty damn big numbers throughout the smaller European territories.
