Forums - Gaming Discussion - You Can Now Sell Skyrim Mods on Steam

Welcome to The Realm of Video Games

With Valve's Most recent update rolling out you can now sell user generated content, Skyrim Mods on Steam.  Will this promote user created content even further?

Valve's Tom Bui said: "User-generated content is an increasingly significant component of many games, and opening new avenues to help financially support those contributors via Steam Workshop will help drive the level of UGC to new heights."

Bethesda had this to say.
"Modding has been important to all our games for such a long time," "We try to create worlds that come alive and you can make your own, but it's in modding where it truly does. Thanks again for all your incredible support over the years. We hope steps like this breathe new life into Skyrim for everyone."

Awesome, I hope the guys making stuff like Skywind and Beyond Skyrim monetize their mods to alleviate their costs and accelerate development. I'd value Skywind at $20.

Some of the better UGC actually deserves being paid for, I hope they'll have some form of quality control though, there is also a lot of shit UGC.
Another problem with concepts like digital media is that it's rather simple to cheat with reviews and recommendations by using multiple fake accounts to brag about products; which means that the community part of quality control is often hard to trust.

Overall though; good news, UGC has been a massive and important part of PC gaming for years and deserves a lot more official recognition.

Saw it. One reaction. All good things comes to an end.

sounds like a bad decision to me. Such stuff should be donation based.

Steam and quality control...I don't think those two words belong in the same sentence.

but it's not ending, not every single mod is suddenly going to charge money and even then there are tons of free mods out there anyway.

Why do you care though for a game that's this old?, you said you didn't like PC gaming so i don't see how this would affect you in any way.

The good times keep on rolling I say.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

Everything I wanted to say has been said already, but biggest issue is quality control and fake reviews. Other than that pretty good idea. Especially for Beyond Skyrim.

#1 Amb-ass-ador

The modders cut is 25% of the total sale. I think that's worth mentioning.

I am alright with this. I trully think there are some mods that are worth the money. The Steam forums are gone be unbereable for the next few...weeks.
