For games that is old, i think it's a too late lol, soon people will play The Witcher 3 and create more mods for next gen games, i bet only few moders creator will sell their mods.
Mods is good if it's free, it's more of community

Yeah because the people in the large companies didn't put hard work when they created the unique games and engines used for these mods... How shitty of them, not letting other people use their creations to profit off of without compensation. Oh yeah they belong to a large corporation, so they don't count as human beings, I forgot!!

Yeah. Especially Valve put soooo much hard work in Skyrim. And it's not like mods are driving up sales, generating more money for the publisher in the process. I mean you never hear someone say "I love Skyrim so much because of the mods!", do you? So yeah, Publisher and Valve should get most of the money made with mods while those dirty peasant hobby devs should be happy about a nickel and a dime. My bad.

Well Valve put hard-work (and invested money) in creating a platform for the sale of said game/mods and the advertisement thereof. Servers, infrastructure, and the human capital to created steam are not free, you know.
People seem quite happy with their modless console-versions to be honest. I think PC gamers would still buy Skyrim if there weren't mods. I know I still would, and mods make the experience great for me. That is why I think people should be able to monetize them.
I totally agree that People should be able to monetize mods. But they should get more than 25 %. Much more.

That is for them to decide. If they don't want to use Steam they don't have to. They can advertise their mods on their own website, and use their own money to upfront server costs and advertisement (bandwidth can be pricy.) Nothing is preventing them.

i always use nexus mod manager, i hope every mod in nexus still be free.

I just got my skyrim with all my mods and had to remove a couple of hundred.
Although, I do believe in rights to charge for their work.
The problem is modding is risky buisness, and the more mods you install the more likely compatibility is to break. I'm not willing to pay for potential compatibility problems. Not to mention there's the issue of merging patches, which one has to do once you reach over 255 mods.
