for GTA reception.

I hope you're not suggesting that marketing is directly proportional to a game's collective reception by fans and reviewers alike, because that's not true. This also hardly explains why you think GTA's quality is not truly reflected by it's review score.

What are you talking about Pie? Look at the near universal praise of Destiny and recent COD titles from critics and players! All 95+ meta games. The link between marketing and reception is so clear :p

I skipped those games because they were mainstream and overrated. If a Metacritic score doesn't reflect exactly how I feel about a game then I simply don't play it and consider it a bad game, because these outside factors always effect my experience.

You skipped a game simply because its mainstream?

That is correct...

Actually, if you read my previous posts in this thread, and this post again, you'd realize it was a parody.

I doubt it, there are still a lot magazins which will give GTA a 9/10 score. They will give the game only 9/10 just because they don't want it to reach Ocarina of Time levels though GTA V deserves 10/10.

Nah, it'll probably settle in the 95 - 98 range (depending on the sample group). I don't think even OOT would have stuck to 99 if it had the 50+ reviews that's become standard now. It could be argued that it 'deserves' that score, it was a titan of quality and progression when it released, but maintaining a score that high is almost impossible. It only takes a couple of people that enjoyed it slightly less than most to knock it down.

Marketing is the only reason for what?

for GTA reception.

So the only reason critics and millions of gamers find it so much fun, and have perpetuated its great word of mouth for 2~ years is because of... marketing? Damn, if it's that easy everyone should jump on board. They'll all be selling 40m copies by the end of the week!

Funny that a cod developer already explained how it works. the marketing conditions the audience to like it.
