Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Do you think Nintendo will be relevent next gen?

I think we can all agree that it's too little too late for the WiiU. Even with a year alone on the market I, as most people, consider it a commercial failure even though it still has quality 1st party games.

My question to you: do you think Nintendo will turn it around for next generation? If yes, how do you think they'll do it?

I think for a Nintendo to be relevant in the console race next gen; they'll need to do a couple things:

-again release console first

-get rid of gamepad and use a standard controller as its main controller

-garner at least decent 3rd party support (easy with new controller)

-continue to make the same quality of 1st party games

-make the online play not suck (no friend codes)

-launch cheap

Thoughts?

30+ years and counting...

Dreamworks studio arrived on the scene, but that doesn't mean that Pixar was subject to doom. I'm sure people thought the same thing when Gamecube came out. Then Wii and DS came out and blew the world away. They'll be relevant.

Not if they continue with the Wii U route: cheap unambitious games and overpriced DLC. Their greatest game so far is MK8 and Xenoblade coming. The rest of their games are unimpressive for their first HD console.

Well, i'm pretty sure that their next console will not even have the same power as the actual gen, since they are more concerned with how much watts it will consume instead of how much flops will put out, so its up to the gimmick and price.

"Hardware design isn’t about making the most powerful thing you can.
Today most hardware design is left to other companies, but when you make hardware without taking into account the needs of the eventual software developers, you end up with bloated hardware full of pointless excess. From the outset one must consider design from both a hardware and software perspective."

As of now handhelds continue to rock. So it's just a matter of careful analysis for their next home console release. Targetting the real userbase and something that could repeat a Wii Magic.

I think nintendo can only become relavent if MS leaves the console bussines like during the n64 days, then its again all playstation vs a bit of nintendo over there. Those were the best times in gaming.

Because that worked so well with the Wii U?

Oh Ka-pi... you really have no clue. You have to remember that the Wii U reveal marked the first time an EA executive went on Nintendo's stage. Nintendo had never sucked up so much to third parties before and look where it got them.

By letting them on stage? :/

Lets not forget that Nintendo had no games to show at the Wii U's reveal so its not like they sacrificed precious time

This will never work for nintendo... only for nintendo

We reap what we sow

3ds+WiiU> Ps4 + X1 + Vita

if that is not to be relevant then i don't know what is
