Forums - Sales Discussion - Is This The Year Microsoft Throws In The Towel On Xbox?

The third party console exclusives.  MS has published a lot of them to ensure they are only on Windows and Xbox.  You think MS just writes a check so they don't put them on PS4? No.

Ok.

First publisher rights doensn't means it will be only in one plataform... dozen of games published by Microsoft ended in others consoles... you need a contract of exclusivity to that and it can be in the publisher contract or not.

To have a contract of exclusivity you need to offer something to the dev... and that can be a lot of things like Marketing budget, cover dev costs, help to developer the game (which MS don't have any studio doing that) or even a $$$$ check.

That is how a game ends exclusive.

The issue is that if you sell less while the competition sells more (a lot more) the dev start to see that only a marketing or developer deal won't cover the amount of money comming from releasing in this other more successful plataform... even the check start to be bigger than before... if you paid $50m before this gen started now you will pay over $200m.

That is how it works.

This is business... and MS don't have the priority to get exclusives due the low sales... they need to offer a lot of money in one way or other.

PS. I don't have any issue against to buy exclusivities or time-exclusivities but for MS it is becoming more and more expensive and the results are not coming.

This generation is shaping up somewhat like 6th generation.

Why should they give up if sales are showing growth YOY? It would have been like if they threw in the towel last gen when the Wii crusched all opposition. The most important part is that they are making a profit and with their new strategy of merging the PC and console space, they are rather expanding the XBox platform right now.

Growth YOY? It lookes that way cuz last year the x1 was the but of all jokes andd the sales of jan and feb 2014 ws not very good to beging with, it got totally demolished by the ps4. The x1 will most likely see a decrease in the coming months, starting with march npd. This holliday they will be up, but the rest of the year will be horrendus.

Not the same as last gen. First the wii did not take awway sales of the 360 or ps3, cuz people had it as a secondry console, this time the ps4 is definetly taking away sales from the x1. There where some diferences in the conoles last gen, this time they will share 95% of the games, but the x1 will play them at a lower resolution and the few exclusives we get this gen, the ps4 will have more(Better will be objective). might be a battle in the US, but rest of the world the battle is over and there is very litttle the x1 can grow.

Second, Looking at how the market share is 61% US(acording to vgc), By the end of the year it will be at least 70% US. We know the holliday sales will focus on the US and like last year the disparity will be even bigger. For the 360 it ended at 57% US. The ps4 will take at least half of the US market share the 360 had and that half will be like 75-80% of the total x1's.

So 48.32 50% = 24.16m In the US.

24.16 75-80% = 30.2 -32.21m global

That is the max I think they will ever sell, taking into account that all those RROD did not go into the 360's total, wich we know is not true, so Im gessing the x1 will sell is 20-25m lt. Maybe good for nintendo, but MS will see this an an insult and will abandon hip before it gets to taht while bleeding money. They wil never compete with steam, but its less money bleading by competing with them then selling hardware at a loss competing with sony.

Started to read your ranting predictions but then I suddenly noticed your signature. You really are terrible at predicting aren't you. like 3 m out for just a 12 month period lol. Why shud anyone take you seriously about lifetime sales predilections for the xboxone? Man U look pretty bad in the credibility dept. :)

I think you're getting a little carried away with those PS4 "AAA" titles. Fat Princess Adventures, Drawn to Death, Tearaway Unfolded, Kill Strain, hardly AAA titles.

What do you know about Kill Strain?

After checking Amazon the last couple of weeks, I'm noticing another decline in sales of Xbox One. I don't see a system seller until holiday 2015. Maybe Quantum Break or a slight boost from Tomb Raider. Microsoft is pretty much put of options at this point. What can they do to turn this around if a discounted Halo bundle isn't in the top 50?

loool, wut? Why do people continue to be ridiculous regarding the Xbox One?

Not beating PS4 does not equate to death, the system is barely a year old and is sitting at 11m.... by years end it will be sitting at 18-20m, still tracking ahead of the Xbox 360 in the same time in its life.
Did you see last months NPD? Have you looked at Mortal Kombat X, Witcher 3, Skyrim Online, Batman Arkham Knight and Dead Rising 2, games all launching in the next 4 months? This conversation shouldn't be happening, its not selling Vita numbers.

Also microsoft aren't idiots, they're coming a distant second and they know it.

If Halo 5 launches this year then no. Huge opportunity to gain some ground with no Zelda and no Uncharted 4. I still think this generation is easily over (PS4 winner) though.

Titanfall for sure. However, I still don't believe Microsoft needs to need the sales war at this point. Microsoft, like the other two, care more so about profits. Upon enacting this way, even if they are losing the sales war, they do have an excellent holiday season coming soon to obtain more so.

Why is a negative Microsoft topic with facts on this forum considered trolling? The responses are always haha, joke post etc.

I understand people are fans of a console but can we stick to facts and the topic?

Halo bundle is 62nd on Amazon. Is shouldn't matter if Microsoft has 5 bundles, it's Halo. What can Microsoft do to turn it around?

It's not like it is a new halo game in those bundles, it is just ports of all the old ones.  You make it sound like the world is ending for Microsoft because people aren't  jumping all over a bundle containing ports of a bunch of old games.

Seriously, this whole thread is an overreaction.  The X1 is doing fine, it has actually sold more than the 360 did at the same point in time.  Just because it isn't outselling the ps4 doesn't mean that it is in trouble.

Maybe because Microsoft towing the towel won't happen? It seems some of your threads you made are questionable.
