Forums - Nintendo Discussion - So kirby flopped...

No EU release in sight, and mismatched release dates arent always good for business, cough "watch dogs" cough.

So why do you think consumers didnt show interest for the game? 26k opening week is a betrayal, there are far more nintendo fans than that, so even the most loyal consumers let it pass.

what do you think are some possible reasons it flopped?

what are the reasons you didnt pick it up, nor showed any interest?

:" was nintendo treating it as filler material? Are even nintendo fans tired of 2d platformers? (Captain toad did well, and its not 2d)

:" was it mostly a visual experiment on nintendos part?

Btw, i consider myself a nintendo fan, and enjoyed canvas curse, but still no real interest for this.

let me hear your thoughts!

I certainly didn't expect it to do that much, but yeah, that is kinda low. Maybe people bought it digitally? idk.

Kirby doesn't flop, he rolls.
This thread is in relation to the Wii U clay Kirby game? I believe people just aren't that interested in it.
Do Kirby games ever really pull more than 2 mil anyway?

It did that low? It reminded me of DS version. Damn.

The gameplay isn't interesting enough.

Its not really your typical kirby game though is it? More of a draw the line game. I'm sure a proper platformer would do better.
Its also clearly a budget title, so i dont think much was lost.

What has Watch Dogs got to do with this. Pretty sure that was a world wide release. Unless you mean the different console releases, but that is an entirely different thing. Games regualarly release on different dates in different countries. Depending on the size of the game it can be a pretty long gap as well, doesn't affect any of them.

Not when it comes to japan. But european and american hype build-ups are pretty similair. And if a game were to release way sooner in one of the two regions, the hype would die slowly in the region the game is later released.

The launch to many Kirby games imo. Also Kirby is now knowed to many as a baby franchise, not because of the cute cudly character but because of how easy those games are now a days. Ppl tend to think that ppl who buy wiiUs are mainly young children but I believe that is false, obviously there is alot of kids, but kids want ps4s just as much if not more, the WiiU audience are mainly older ppl that wants a piece of their childhood back by playing Nintendo game, so these ppl are not interested by over simplified Kirby games.

It looks really boring. Personally i am tired of 2D games, wouldn't have bought it if i could

Agreed.. Enough 2d nintendo! I get that they are easier and cheaper to make (the reason indie devs love them)

but take a big budget risk nintendo! Business is also about gambling, and investing in your product and teams.
