Forums - Gaming Discussion - Do you think a game console is a toy?

I never quite considered games as toys, but as entertainment devices like PCs, DVD players, or TVs. Not quite in the same light as toys.

You can call it a toy, nothing wrong with that, but the word toy means different things to different people and that can start off a whole cascade of insecurities among a certain demographic.

So we can choose to generically describe them as toys, interactive media, electronic entertainment etc., but in the end it doesn't matter too much because they are best described simply as video games.

Yeah, it is basically a toy, considering it is something that you play with and use to entertain yourself.

no

I consider it a toy.

I'm not insecure.

Stop looking at me like that.

Pixel Art can be fun.

The New 3DS is so sexy, it might as well be a sex toy.

It's definitely a toy, but some people don't realize that the word "toy" is rather broad and encompasses a lot more than what you normally think of.

I think the main problem people have with calling it a toy is the fact that it has connotations to it. Calling it a toy may make some people feel like their maturity is being questioned.

Though, I honestly wouldn't call game consoles a toy. It's become somewhat of a diminutive term and I don't like oversimplifications.

I have been paying my bills, applying for loans/credit cards, creating power power point presentations and spread sheets for work, buying cars, cunducting buisness, and much more on PlayStation since the PlayStation Portable.

For me Playstation is a necessity. I love it as a toy as well, but I would say it is 50% buisness, 25% Games, and 25% other entertainment.
