Odds are there will probably be game mode expansions over the years instead of getting a yearly Splatoon release there will probably be free add on DLC

I love this idea..

Consoles owned: Wii U wii gamecube DS DS lite DSi 3DS Xbox 360 Gameboy Gameboy color Gameboy advance Gameboy Advance sp Gameboy micro and PC.

If what you said if true, then it will end up being a decent multiplayer game at best. This game reminds me PVZ GW and that game support 16 vs 16 and it was a lot of fun.

I just want to declare that my love for Nintendo has never been as great as it is right now.

And no, I am not sarcastic.

I dont miss voice chat in mario kart or smash.

Me neither, I'm only taking issue at the apparently one online mode and no regional matchmaking.

Oh dont worry and stop expecting things for a game. Just try it and im sure you will enjoy it. Nintendo knows what it does.

I'm addicted to capture the flag in games. It would be so easy to implement.

I don't even use voice chat, and the 4 vs 4 is fine, if they intend to add more modes I'm open to it, as long as the single player is a lot of fun.

I dunno. I don't think "every other game is doing it so this one has to do it too" is a valid argument in any case. If Splatoon has less content than expected of a full-price game then it should be cheaper than the average $60, sure. But having different content is a good thing. And we don't know all of Splatoon's content, we don't know how many maps it has, how many different kinds of weapons it has, what kind of local multiplayer it has, how long its single-player is.

The devs flat-out describe Hero Mode as a 3D platformer, so if you insist on demanding that Splatoon follow the same standard practices as other games in its genre, let's compare its online multiplayer to that of other 3D platform games. Such as......... such as........... y'know.... all those online multiplayer 3D platform games...... whose names escape me right now.

It just doesn't make any sense to me to say, "This title has similar gameplay to those other titles, therefore it has to have the same kind of content." That is the path that leads to stagnation. WHY CAN'T YOU SEE THE PATHETIC LIMITATION OF THE SPIRAL RACE

lol thanks for linking that video!

I know Splatoon has single player and local multiplayer which I'm absolutely grateful for since other shooters lack these sometimes. But Nintendo has been marketing its online multiplayer much more than its single player. I wouldn't be surprise if the single player has only 10+ hr of content like other shooters, because this game was cleary made with multiplayer in mind. I mean the first reveal trailer only showed multiplayer. It wasn't until last December that we had any info on single player and the game is coming out this May!

Mario Kart 8 was also released in May last year, and I don't think that's a coincidence. I'm confident that Nintendo is going to market Splatoon as their next big multiplayer series in the online shooter genre. Now local multiplayer could be a blast and have a lot of modes. But this game is a shooter, and it deserves to have multiple modes in online. And making them exclusive to friends only isn't enough when other shooters in the market don't do this.

Splatoon shouldn't be excused for having only one random online multiplayer mode because it isn't like CoD, Battle Field, or any other shooters. Team Fortress 2 isn't like CoD or Battle Field but it has more than one random online mode to play. Excusing Splatoon for having only one online mode with anyone/random players because it is different is cutting Nintendo slack for not embracing online gameplay again.

Edit: What is the official term for online modes that lets you play with anyone. I think I've been saying random but I'm not sure if others agree with that terminology.
