7th gen was the peak for consoles. Total console sales will never be that high ever again.

that's assuming ps4 doesn't outsell the ps2

Even if it does (which is very unlikely), X1 + Wii U have to sell around 113m and that is also very unlikely.

who knows where the ps4 can stop (if it does outsell the ps2)

Consoles themselves might die. a unified PC structure is going to replace them.

Consoles are becoming more and more like prebuilt PCs anyways.

Stronger than ever? Musta be kiddin. When i look at the games i've played on PC lately i see... stagnation. No wait, regression.

Console games are still improving. Pc just reached the limit too early and there is not much more it can do considering the resources required to hit those heights.

How are console games still improving?, they are made using closed hardware and so far from this gen they can't always 100% guarantee 1080p 60fps with less bugs, that's not really much of an improvement, sure you could have an obvious pair up of a PS3 game compared to a PS4 one but then it;s basically a mere graphical slider which we get on PC all the time from low settings to high, it's not really that drastic.

I don't understand where you're going with the rest of what you;re saying though, it sounds like you're saying consoles have unlimited resources and power while PC is incrediably weak, limited and costs space stations to design for (considering console and PC games are made using a PC anyway).

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

Compare gta4 ps3/360 to gta 5 on ps3/360. Compare bf3 on ps3 to the release day bf4 on ps4. Massive jumps. Uncharted 1 to uncharted 3 and now compared to the ps4 version. Massive jumps. Meanwhile pc still struggling to improve much on original crisis.

Funny you should bring up this topic just as Sega pretty much announces the death of its console game development department.

I'm sure they'll keep saying the same thing over and over until console gaming does eventually die.

Some of them were just tech or market analysts that didn't understand the video game and console markets. You can't compare trends of cell phones and other tech to core gaming. You'll just look like an idiot when the predictions don't turn out right.

I wouldn't say never, since you don't know what could potentially happen.  It probably wont happen this gen, but who knows what might happen to consoles later on.

I don't think very many people ever said it was going to die. However, I'm pretty sure we have peaked at this point. In the past it was easy to make new records every gen because more and more countries and more and more social classes were gaining access to video games. There just isn't that many significant places left and I don't think China will ever embrace consoles unless you let them pirate everything. It's kind of like South Korea, they have plenty of money to buy it, they just won't because of the culture of piracy.
