They're out to make money. Just like the other two. Sony and Nintendo aren't some angel y'know.

Money is all any business cares about. Find something people want and sell it to them. Is that a good reason? As good a reason as any other company. None of them care about you.

MS never has or never will care about gamers. They always quit supporting their old console 12-24 months prior to the next consoles release, and as soon as they thought they had a stranglehold on the console market they announced the terrible "pre-180" policies. If it were not for Sony's strong showing XB1 fans would be dealing with that BS right now. It weird this GEN, even the biggest MS fanboy has to be gratefull to Sony this GEN.

If MS ever gets in a dominent position again expect more anti consumer policies to follow shortly after.

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

My perspective on Microsoft is that they are in the market to dominate and destroy. They want to get to number 1, and then lock the door. Once on top they do zero creating or innovating. MS puts 100% of their effort in to making sure that no competition can ever get traction. They either hammer small buisness with lawsuits, buy them out, or slander them.

As I see it, the day MS would win the console war would be the last day they would ever make a new game, or add new os feature's. Their victory would mean an immediate shift to raising prices, tightening restrictive policies, and an end to research in new forms of entertainment.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

As of now they certainly do. Losing (but not last place losing) brings out the better in them.

Frequent and meaningful updates, terrific big name games (not on PS4) at launch and 2014, unbundling Kinect, making the console cheaper and value oriented with great bundles. EDIT: Can't forget the free ODST to all Halo MCC early adopters. That was nice.

As opposed to Sony which so far is being kinda lazy with PS4 system updates, made PSN mandatory for multiplayer, PS Now prices are kinda taking advantage, bundles that don't actually save you money and even drive up PS4s cost ($450) with LOUR (that allready made Sony profit), a lack of quality AAA hits since launch, and a general complacency due to being the sales winner (because why try when you allready won).

Point being, Sony was playing catch-up last gen and won gamers hearts. Now MS is doing the same. Losing does that.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

What are you taking about they are still supporting the X360 12+ months since the X1 released.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

Yes, but its tough to match Sony on this level.

Infamous, Killzone, Uncharted were only modest hits, yet the increase in investment on the sequels is quite monumental. Meanwhile MS make a modest hit such as Crackdown and follow up with Crackdown 2, quite possibly the most gormless sequel ever made.

I don't know, I don't work for them.

Of course their primary goal is to earn money, same as Sony and Nintendo. But they are a much larger company, and it can be expected that they have less passion about 1% of their business than Nintendo whose business is 100% gaming, or Sony to whom gaming is one of the few bright spots and a direction away from bankruptcy.
I truly don't care how much passion they have for gaming, as long as that passion doesn't translate into taking more games away from their fans, Tomb Raider style.

I don't see how the practice of securing exclusives is a practice reserved for MS.

I never said it is an exclusive practice. I just don't want MS to do it, because that means that I will never be able to play those games.
