Forums - Sales Discussion - Why would PS4 win December NPD?

Microsoft's not going to have the Price of X1 down to $325 in December.

How does that change what we are saying?  It is the buying season and price is determining a great deal of what is happening.  That is all we are saying.

And just as many are eating crow on the ONE.  It was dead, it would be beat 2:1 in the US and UK, 10:1 elsewhere... etc etc.

The ONE is hammering the 360's performance and doing just fine.

Fair enough, but being cheaper than the PS4 with two free games is very different from being sold at the exact same price.

And as for the XB1 doing fine, and how well or not its beaten or not... I think you should calm down a bit. The XB1 is doing well this season (and for obviously good reason). But this is not a victory. What happpens if at the end of the year the XB1 has managed 10-11M in sales while the PS4 has done 20M to 21M? What happens when come january the PS4 goes right back to outselling the XB1 every month till november next year? What happens when this time next year the PS4 costs $300-$350 too?

I am not knocking the XB1s accomplishments, I feel any sane sensible person would have known thatthe XB1 would most likely take november with allthey were doing. But I just feel that some are jumping to conclusions way too early. Especially when it means ignoring the obvious white elephant in the room.

Which is; if the PS4 manages 20M sold at the end of 2014 and the XB1 manages 11M. It would mean that in 2014, both consoles sold 16M and 8M respectively. Anyways, lets forget about that. I am sure some will say this has nothing to do with how well the XB1 is selling right now. I just think if XB1 can win a few months during the slow period of the year... it would be overall better for them.

Huh? What are you talking about? I am puzzled....

All we said was many claimed in the beginning that price was never a factor for people not buying an xbox one.

And yes, many also claimed that the x1 was dead.. all those doom threads about the x1 in the past year... I am not sure what is so wrong about what we said. Everything we said is the truth.. PS4 can do down to 299 tomorrow but it does not stop the fact that price is a factor to consumers. You going too deep on this.

Praise the One.

If the basis of those doom threads was that the XB1 is so far behind that there is no way it will make a comback? then what is happenning now does not change that. And will only get worse as the generation goes on. Once both consoles are under $300, it won't matter how much cheaper the XB1 can be at that point.

and people "claimed" that price was not a factor when before MS removed kinect. They said that even without kinect and the XB1 being the same price with the PS4 the PS4 will still outsell it. They said, that the XB1 has to be cheaper to stand a chance. Those people were not wrong, thast what I am saying. You guys seem to be claiming victory for a battle that was never fought.

I've seen this a lot in the recent week. While it's pretty much clear that X1 has November NPD in the bag, people are already pretty much assuming that PS4 will definitely win December NPD. On what basis exactly? What changes in December as opposed to November? X1 is currently in beast mode and I don't see a reason why that would suddenly turn into favor for PS4.

The ACU bundle is still widely available, on Amazon it even got back to its BF price of $329 where it is currentl selling like hotcakes. On PS4 side we have both BF bundles out of stock everywhere, the Destiny only for its old price above $400. The only thing that's available is the Vanilla PS4 for standard price.

Sure that situation may change but for that Sony has to ship a whole bunch of units while MS's supply chain has to break. But even if Sony manages to ship more, the X1 still has the ability to outsell it either way, like we've seen throughout November.

The only hope I'm seeing here for Sony to win December NPD is huge shipments, more deals and big revelations at PSX.

Based on the fact, the 399$ Bundles would be still availabe at every major retailer for the whole December
But it seems like the bundles are very limeted and only for black friday. And in that case the Ps4 has zero chance to win against the 349$ Xb1 bundle

In general every console, that wins November NPD also win December. I don't remeber any month were that not happend.
So yes, the chances are very very low

Maybe you dont know but X1 is still dead as you say in 90% of the markets it is competing with the PS4 for.

Most were right about the price as most claimed even at same price PS4 will still badly out sale it and it did.  Most also claimed that X1 needs to be cheaper then PS4 to compete and its cleary proven so.  So please get of this we were victims and now are so right mentality out of ehre, we all know what was really said.

And surely none claimed that a X1 with a cost vlaue of $240 (330 - two free games (60and50best buy) woudl struggle to sale.

Wow, you sound hurt that the x1 is selling well for the holidays.. Victory? where did I said anything about victory..

I made a statement about pricing and you feel the need to basically "throw dirt" on me by bringing up the fact that ps4 outsellling x1 for the past year.

Dude we all know the ps4 is outselling the x1 and x1 will never catch at the pace the ps4 is going but you seem to be saying way too much just for me  saying many thought x1 pricecuts would not matter.

Price matters.  hence proof of how well x1 sold over black friday.

Praise the One.

It will be close, but you always have to count on last-minute holiday shoppers. If MS extends the bundles, they'll win December too.

Xbox One winning December NPD wouldn't be very surprising honestly!

Xbox can win if they can maintain the price, but if they do, that will kill the purpose of stimulating market (most of price discount is to stimulate the market ) so i guess the price will go back to $350 minimum or returned to $400. So if PS4 can maintain the ad and hype with more bundled and games announcement while Xbox return the price then PS4 will win December easily, but there is a condition and possibility PS4 to win even if Xbox still have their BF price, that's if PS4 have the same bundle value or the consumer is really just expecting to buy PS4 in the end of the years. and even in US, PS4 now is gain a lot of respect more then Xbox one. So the price is a factor but overall value is determine most.
