Forums - Microsoft Discussion - What's Up With The Loser Mentality for XBO (Coming from a sports player)?

I like how you have to PROVE to us you are not a fanboy, like anybody really gives a damn or you're scared of people on the internet. Just state your opinion mate.

OT: You gotta pick your battles. Who knows? A strong holiday and keeping the "limited" price drop may create real momentum and turn the tides, as unlikely as that may sound.

if we apply the same logic to a higher level:
why are Playstation fans happy about the PS4 "winning" weeks or months, when in reality Sony is the company in huge financial troubles, despite the PS4 doing good, while Microsoft and to a lesser extent Nintendo can live much better with the lower sales?

Being second (by that time) is being the loser? I'd take silver over bronze any day of the week!

If your not first your last - ricky bobby.

Don't act like if he didn't prove he owned an X1 that people would just accuse him of being a fanboy. I've seen it happen time and time again on forums.

Way to pretty much prove the OP's point.

EDIT:  I should include the disclaimer that I couldn't care less what place the X1 is in or care much for that sort of thing in general, but if you subscribe to that sort of thinking, then you're taking the mentality he's saying you shouldn't be.

Can't be as bad as the obnoxious winner

Didn't see you call it that last gen. That's just how life is and a winner has at least a right to brag.

Ohhhhh you... IMO I hate second place or consolation trophies lol

OP. I think that mentality just applies to the MS's employees (the team) and not the consumers (the public)... so the MS needs to fight back and try to win the championship.

While the Public can have it own opinon just fine.

That was your mistake in the analogy.

MS is fighting/playing... not the consumers.

Nearly every single extra sale the remainder of the year is taking away a potential PS4 purchaser this year or next year. Also extra sales this year increase the probability that someones friend, neighbor, family member will stop by for whatever reason and give the X1 a try and go damn I like it. Thus increasing the probability they purchase an X1 in the future. Also the added sales that the X1 gets this year will increase investments in software by MS and others for the X1 platform. Also the added sales at the $50 lower price point increases the likelihood that MS will keep the price at that level in 2015. Finally 2014 results overall do not predict 2015 results. So just because PS4 won most (maybe all) of 2014 doesnt mean that the PS4 will win in 2015.

Everything you said is true about PS4 as well.  Every PS sold will mean more PSs sold.  But we don't know if either statements are true.  And the taking one PS4 out of hands if someone buys and X1 is insane.  Most early adopters own both I would think.

Most, but not all.  I also know about 10 people with X1s with no interest in purchasing a PS4. Also we are now moving past early adopters.  Many of those people that end up purchasing one of the consoles on BF will not be multiple console owners. This will be the console they own for the next 10 years.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

You should have read two or three posts after what I wrote, on which I also said that I couldn't care less the position of consoles in sales.

EDIT: I do subscribe to that sort of thinking, in different areas of my life.

Not everything (hardly anything) is that black and white or as shallow as the win/lose life of sport..

Anyway, presumably you are the number 1 in your chosen profession? Earning as much money as it is possible to earn. Married to the woman of you dreams and have straight A model children? After all, anything else is just losing.

Dont use the most basic interpretation of winning or losing in sport as an analogy for anything outside sport. Nuance it perhaps, but dont cut and paste.

I will add. I am a Chicago Blackhawks fan, did I somehow have an terribly unhappy season last year when the Hawks didnt repeat?  Absolutly not we still had a great and fun year.
