Mainly because Snes was king with no real competition and there were no real "console wars" or competition in those days.

Oh boy...

Yes we all know that great comercial, which didn't put a dent in snes sales. Or do you come from an alternate dimension where Sega outsold nintendo, ever? As I said there was no competition for Snes, there was no real discussion between which was better. Most people either just got Snes or got both.

Actually Sega had Nintendo on the ropes for a few years before the SNES ultimately pulled ahead and won.

No it really didn't lol. The genesis was released in 1989. The only reason it had Nintendo "on the ropes" or more accurately had a large market share for that generation because the geneses had no competition for years. SNES wasn't released until 1991 in the US and 1992 in the remaining large markets. When it was released it outsold the genesis at every turn. Especially in the US. Then Sega decided to focus on add ons like the sega cd then they basically just gave up after pulling themselves in too many different directions.  Despite their clever commercials sega never beat snes or really negatively affected their sales. Granted I was a teenager at the time but I remember it clearly. There was no real "console war" at the time, at least nothing like what we see now. Snes dominated out of the gate, sega did well for itself but shot itself in the foot, stretched itself too thin then just quietly went away.

Genesis competed quite well with the SNES for the first couple of years, thanks to the larger library of games its headstart had given it, and its "hip" image. Only later did the likes of Donkey Kong Country sink the Genesis and seal SNES's victory.

Let's just leave it at I should have been clearer.

Na just leave it at you had no idea what you were talking about made some bad assumption and are too young to accuratly say what was actually going on at the time. Since that would actually be accurate and the truth.

Lol, whatever. Think what you want. Just like there was no internet during the years of the Snes, there were no console wars, and there were no such things as forums on the internet at that time about video games when you couldn't do things like stream videos, play online games, ect. I'm the wrong one. ;)

That's... still competion. Why did SNES sell less than NES then? People just didn't feel like buying Nintendo consoles anymore for no reason whatsoever?

OT: I'm a filthy copycat, I apologize

Please continue to make uninformed assumptions and put words in my mouth. You really don't know what the internet or forums(back then known as chat rooms) were like during the time since you were still in diapers. But go ahead you guys keep getting your information from wikias and pretend you have any idea what it was like then.

Things seem to be escalating out of control here. Let's keep it on topic and calm please.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

If you say so. (though Gamespot was founded in May 1996, which is before the end of the Snes gen.)
