Will Xenoblade Chronicles be the next massive Nintendo franchise?

Xenoblade X probably won't even sell 1 million. Japan doesn't even like Xenoblade. It sold around 163k with 10 million Wiis in Japan. And by the time Xenoblade X comes out for Wii U, there will probably be 2.5 million. It will most likely bomb. Same with the other regions, probably 500k lifetime sales.

Don't know if FFXIII will ever be vindicated as one of the best of its franchise like Wind Waker ultimately has once people got over the looks of it. Also Dragon Quest excluding the most recent MMORPG usually outsell FF in Japan.

But I do agree, as successful as the Xenoblade franchise may eventually get, it is unlikely to ever touch FF despite the drop off in recent games. Nintendo will probably keep it around if X does as well if not better then the first one but much like most Nintendo IPs (Metriod, Fire Emblem, Star Fox, etc), if you aren't falling under the brand of Mario, Zelda, Pokemon or Kirby, you will only get games that Nintendo developers want to do and it will not be a priority to release.

Hercales (Glory of Hercales) , Starfy (Legend of Starfy), Mike Jones (Star Tropics), Kyle Hyde (Hotel Dusk) and Ashley Robbins (Another Code/Trace Memory), you all are missed.

I would like to add that Ninty is not going to push the series like Square does FF. They really have no need to. Square is used to putting out 2-3 FF games per gen and thats just the main series.

Lol ummm sorry no it won't be like MK8 or Smash. It's a niche game.

Oh the last gen did suck for the series. But again that is ONE gen versus damn near every other gen that was fine. 14 is fixed. The newer version is much improved and they are making money on it. 12 is def not Windwaker. Not even close. More people liked it than hated it. ANd it was still a well crafted game. IMHO you are focusing on the very few negatives and ignoring the positives. You brought up 10 and that is a game that just had a rerelease that sold more than a million copies. A rerelease thats more than Xenoblade did, which just proves how much relevant FF series STILL is. Just because the director left doesnt mean 15 will suck. Im going ot assume that most of the game is done at least the real important stuff and he went on to continue KH3. That tells me that SE is doing proper time management. People keep coming back because for the most part the series had done wll. ANd Type 0 is coming out very soon and that is actually a good game. SO the series seems to be back on track.

You're assuming more people hate than like Windwaker? Not the case. (It sold more than a million copies on it's remake as well on an install base of around 3 million. Not to mention digital sales.)

Also a rerelease that did more than a game that was very limited in release? Hardly a bragging point.

no. Im not at all. Im assuming that not as much people hated FF12 as you are trying to say so any comparison to WW is moot. Really you could compare WW to 13 as that game is way more polarizing.

If that is the case then you really cant brag about Xenoblade numbers either. LR FF13 PS3 version ALONE did better than xenoblade either. And that was released later and on a system with a smaller install base. And that game wasnt that well received. But bragging wasnt my point or aim. Im simply stating that the FF series is so big that they will sell larger than just about any other JRPG series outside of maybe Dragon Quest

True, but brand recognition and empty promises can go a long way. FF XIII is the perfect example. (And I wouldn't want to brag about LR either.)

But that's even besides the point, it isn't a question of whether X will outsell Lightning Returns (which I'm positive will, hell once Xenoblade 3DS comes out it will surpass LR) I'm just saying FF is not the quality jrpg powerhouse it once was. For people wanting a truly epic jrpg, Xenoblade and Xenoblade X could be exactly where they go.

Yes man, thats my point! and its not bragging if its true and again im illustrating HOW much more influential that series is compared to Xenoblade its not evne close.

Sure it could but IMHO the treatment of the series so far will ensure that it stays niche. FF has always appeared on the most popular systems of their time. Last gen was the only one where the main series appeared on a system that wasnt the market leader (and even then it didnt matter cause it was multiplat). Ninty didnt even want to release Xenoblade over here. X is releasing to a very small install base. IMHO i think people are going to get back into FF this gen. I think Xeno is way too niche to do the numbers you think they will. FYI I dont think its anything to be proud of for Xeno to outsell LR by havign to have a rerlease If we throw in 360 numbers it would still beat Xeno

Short term yes.

Also, there were 190,000 XBox 360 LR software sales (which is terrible numbers) and if Xenoblade 3DS only sells 300,000 it will beat both combined.

No. I recon it may reach 1M lifetime, but that's a stretch for a game that didn't made 1M in the Wii with a much higher install base. It's a pretty niche game.

It didn't make 1M on the will because Nintendo really botched the localization and release of the game.  Due to that, it was highly pirated (the article from the year after it released stated it was downloaded around 1M times from thepiratebay.org).

As much as I loved Xenoblade Chronicles I have to laugh at someone even thinking that X could approach Mario Kart or Smash Bros type of sales. Is this a stealth troll thread?

Nope, 3 million is not impossible to get. I think with the critical praise Xenoblade got it could reach those numbers. Now Mario Kart and Smash Bros Wii sales (double digit millions) I'd say is impossible, but not Wii U sales.

I doubt it. The difference is that their was still all the content in Windwaker while XIII was just a shallow FF experience as a whole. You didn't interact with the World or people in it in XIII, you didn't manage your party until the absolute VERY end, the shops and upgrade systems were pretty much useless (because by the time you maxed upgraded one weapon it was pretty much the end of the game. Hell I beat the game with a LOT of the characters default weapons and never upgraded once). Transforming summons were pointless as you didn't get to control them, you never got an airship, level system was bare and never gave any real benifit to classes that complimented the characters natural ability. No, XIII was a disaster and always will be.
