Forums - Gaming Discussion - Will the Xbox Ones price drop slow down the Wii U's holiday season?

Think XB1 will put a lump of coal in the Wii U's stocking?

Yes 84 40.58%

No 123 59.42%

Yeah they are both targeting different audiences. And both have big system sellers during the holidays so the Wii U should do fine. After the holidays though, Wii U's sales will become low again. The X1 will also see low sales after the holidays unless MS makes that price drop permanent.

I still find hard to believe that there is no Halo MCC bundle in US / Europe.

Yeah it was a silly decision not to make one. A white MCC X1 bundle for $349 would have been huge.

Nah, that price cut is pretty much all aimed at combating the PS4.

Nintendo at this point is operating in their own bubble and have their own audience, they're not directly competing (maybe if the Wii U had third party support).

I dont think the XBox Ones sales will drop so badly seeing that the exclusives and third party will still be going strong as 2015 comes in. Nintendo is the only one who will be really feeling the slump after the holiday season dies off the way things are looking. Halo MCC will be selling well into next year and hyping people up for Halo 5 and Quantium Break, WItcher, Batman and other great games will be out early next year. Many people forgot Batman got pushed back and its current gen only.

OH god...that would've been murder. You know how Microsoft loves to shine during the holiday season. If there is any period of the year where MS turns it up to eleven its Christmas.

That rare thread where I agree with Seece. They don't really compete so strongly that it would affect.

I think that most people don't think about the fact that the average consumer doesn't have the brand loyalty that we sometimes tend to. Its a good chance to step back and realize how much can be gained in lost in such a short amount of time. ;)

The XB1 price cut is to stay competitive with the PS4, not the Wii U. There really isn't much of an overlap in audience between Wii U and XB1. There isn't a lot of direct competition between the two. Those who do like both will probably buy both anyway.

The Wii U has plenty of struggles going forward, but the price of the XB1 this holiday season probably isn't one of them.

I doubt many of those tempted to get an Xbox One because of this price cut would want a Wii U anyway due to it's limited variety of games. So I don't think it will affect Wii U sales much at all.

I was told Wii U has the best games though ;(

You've been had.

OT: Despite all the comparison threads Microsoft is not trying to compete with the WiiU. They don't have to. 3rd party support alone will put them ahead. No this move is solely to compete with the PS4. They already have have a 1m lead in the US, Microsoft doesn't want that gap to widen.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

Agreed. I think the big differnce is preference in games and whether the buyer has a PS4 yet or not. Someone who loves platformers and character titles isn't really looking at the XB1, while those who love FPS titles aren't leaning hard towards the U. That is, unless the have a PS4 already, in which case the U offers some variety.
