Forums - Gaming - Will the Xbox Ones price drop slow down the Wii U's holiday season?

Think XB1 will put a lump of coal in the Wii U's stocking?

Yes 84 40.58%

Nope, Wii U has a great line-up of exclusives, more targeted at the audience that would be interested in those kinds of games, Xbox One doesn't have anything to appeal to that audience.
If price is a factor, then Wii U would be the system to go for, because it's cheaper.
Form factor could also be seen as a selling point as well as free online.

Wii U could also be seen as a great family system and the price makes it more appealing to that audience.

XB1 will no doubt get slightly better sales because of this price drop than it would have done if MS had kept it at what it was before, but this repeated slew of policy changes, price drops could actually work negatively against Microsoft because people may actually just wait until the next price drop happens or Microsoft releases an even cheaper slimmer model of XB1.

They will need bundles this Christmas to do well either way. Assuming they do all kinds of bundles Nintendo will do quite well this Christmas and will largely uneffected by Xbox One. Nintendo is approaching the market differently than Xbox One and PS4 with the wiiu. Targeting the Nintendo faithfull who purchase only Nintendo product and core gamers who are willing and able to purchase more than one console. Pricing moves by Sony and Microsoft effect eachother moreso than Nintendo.

I doubt many of those tempted to get an Xbox One because of this price cut would want a Wii U anyway due to it's limited variety of games. So I don't think it will affect Wii U sales much at all.

One could argue that Xbox one lacks a variety of quality games. None cares about poor quality games. When you look at Microsofts offering almost all quality games a restricted to 2 or 3 main game styles. The Wiiu offers more variety in quality games. Mario Kart(Arcade Style Racing),  Donkey Kong Tropical Breeze (2d Platformer), Mario 3D World (3d Platforming), Bayonetta (Action Game), Wind Waker HD (Adventure), Smash Bros (Figher) are all high quality games and offer a real range in gameplay opportunities. Nintendo will continue to offer even more variety next year with Splatoon, Star Fox, and Xenoblade. To suggest that Wiiu isnt offering variety is simply illinformed.

New Wii U bundle is Mario Kart and Nintendo Land for $299 .

I don't think the One's price will affect the Wii U sales, one way or the other, but in proportion it will obviously help widen the sales gap between the two for the holidays.

XBox One and Wii U are competing for second place in the 8th generation console sales wars. 8th generation has already been won by the PS4 that looks likely to extend its sales lead over both XBox One and Wii U. XBox One and Wii U will do whatever it takes to finish second place and avoid the humiliation of finishing third(last) place.

Agreed. I think the big differnce is preference in games and whether the buyer has a PS4 yet or not. Someone who loves platformers and character titles isn't really looking at the XB1, while those who love FPS titles aren't leaning hard towards the U. That is, unless the have a PS4 already, in which case the U offers some variety.

Finally, someone who started thinking outside of the box. This was the similar feeling I got. The generation is still young and outside of the PS4 we don't know what the rest of the people want for sure. Until they are educated on the products for the holiday season everything is up for grabs.

So I guess Nintendo funding Bayonetta 2 wasn't to lure hack n slash gamers from the Playstation and Xbox over to Nintendo, eh?

My thoughts exactly. Nintendo will try despite the non believers.

I doubt that you have played any Wii U game at all. If you compare the quality of games (metacritic for example) as well as variety on xbox one and Wii U you're in for some stunning news!
