Im not sure either one of his posts merits a ban. I wouldnt blame him for leaving the community entirely.  And no im not saying he is right either.

I agree. What he said in his posts wasn't that bad, but he deserves the ban for always posting in bold.

Maybe but it goes directly against the OP of the thread. And how is calling me the worst mod he's ever seen, and comparing us to North Korea, unsubstantiated, constructive criticism?

We run the risk with said comments of the thread ending up like the previous one. Best cut it out early.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

I understand that some users may feel like the mods in here ban or warn them for "no reason" but it's all about being proactive and that is the main reason I wanted to join the team back in March/April, I found the moderation team to be head & shoulders above other sites since they are not only working against ensuing problems at all times but also take an active and unbiased part in discussions on the boards themselves (I've seen mods on other sides banning people for disagreeing in discussions...). We want a community that doesn't devolve into Gamespot or Youtube (god forbid) and it is a slippery slope if we allow poor OP's without proper content, multiple threads on the exact same subject(s) (again; look at other sites, this is a rampant issue and divides discussions and creates pockets of vacuum on discussion boards) cluttering up threads with quote trees that would make Paul Bunyan cry in outrage and users flaming one another or trash-talking certain titles and consoles (not to mention trash-talking mods).

There also seems to be an ongoing infestation of imagined victimization where a lot of people get offended for people bringing up legitimate points on various companies, financial issues and future prospects with basis in ongoing troubles or past troubles and a lot of reports revolve around someone simply not liking what someone writes (it is perfectly acceptable to create new topics on an old discussion if and when new information becomes available on the subject(s) at hand). That is something besides rule infractions and I feel that many have a hard time telling the difference.

As for North-Korea and Nazi analogies, ask yourselves this; would you rather have a broader rule set that keeps this forums from becoming Gamespot/Youtube and some relatively stern rulings and decisions or should we cut more slack and let more things slide and possibly create a community like all (or most) others? For me, the choice is simple; I love this site and the users on it and this is in no small part due to the mods taking smaller issues more seriously here than elsewhere. Where some see nitpicking and unfair moderations, I see taking a proactive stance and nipping potential bigger issues in the bud, the recent focus on being harder on newcomers is one such measure that few seem to think about or appreciate and this alone shows that we show the community lenience based on the merits of users who have shown value to discussions and have a way of protesting and making arguments without setting off others or being rude or childish.
Just like my days working in the door (10 years baby!), it strikes me that the ones who are the most vocal against rules and the enforcers of them are the very same that have the most infractions and this becomes a self-perpetuating cycle that slips past the user's attention.

The fact that a thread like this exists shows how much we respect the community compared to most other sites (most only offer channels for complaints and issues revoling around technical issues and content help) and just because there is legitimate criticism to be shared; that doesn't mean that all criticism from any subjective point-of view is fair, as some seem to think.
There has been talk in the mod chat about the issue of and around banning certain sites as sources as well, but the consensus was quite clear; we don't want to be like other sites and this is also a path we could have easily chosen to silence and/or censor users.
I've been away for some time during the summer but I notice that some few are still hung up on the same complaints and issues as before and that makes me a sad panda, homies.

All that said, I think the community is doing an awesome job at reporting and helping with input on various issues, some users are of immeasurable value in this regard and we hope to continue this coop in the future as well!

No that first post deserved a ban. In fact, you should have given him a longer one for that post. But I don't think he should've been banned for what he said yesterday.

Edit - Delete.

If I want to make a thread about 3DS vs GBA vs DS sales, why can't I?

This is VGC and sales is its DNA.

The moderator who did it may wish to expand, but its listed as off-topic insults.

He got warned, no ban.

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

Huh, kinda forgot about this thread.

It's been rather... tame lately. Maybe that's just me, haven't noticed any big drama outside SoR

Re-tagged, and whichever mod bans Gooch gets a cookie!
