I don't know about you guys, but most games I'm excited about are Japanese, which hasn't happened in a long time.

Bloodborne, Persona 5, MGSV, FF Type-0, FFXV, Silent Hills and The Evil Within are the games I look forward to the most. If only Yakuza was localized... On the Western front, only U4 competes for me, really.

Do you agree? Is this a trend? Are Japanese developers picking up the slack, or perhaps Western developers don't have as many exciting games as they had in recent years?

METAL GEAR SOLID 5 and PERSONA 5 - oh my god !!!! These two games should gamble every "gamer" in life, no matter - if he likes games from Japan or not.

And i buy Bloodborne, The Evil Within, Yakuza Zero.

Silent Hills and FF15 are looking exciting too.

Nope, not for me. No cares about any game you mentioned.

If you are into Japanease games.... but in fact, I have lost most of my Hype to any kind of game. I think I´m geting old.

For the most part, but some western too (Sunset, The Order, Arkham Knight)

I'm actually looking forward to CoD more over them :(

I like competitive multiplayer, what can I say?
But I am sure the games you listed will be pretty cool.

West: Mortal Kombat X, the Witcher 3, Dragon Age: I, Driveclub, The crew, AC unity, Evolve, Aliens Isolation,, LBP 3, Tearaway, the two games from techland and many many more

Japanese: Tales of Zestira, Ys, FF XV, FF Type 0, Kingdom Hearts 3, Bloodborne, Deep Down, Persona 5, Metal Gear solid 5, Resident evil: R2, Silent Hills, God Eater 2 Burst, Tekken 7, Xenoblade and many many more

But yes, it does seem that way.

Add to that Persona Q, Bravely Second and MH4U that should all be released in the west soon. I agree, japanese games overall are way more exciting currently.
