Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo lays off 320 workers in Europe, despite speaking against the practice last year

Yeah. Pretty hypocritical.

Hypocritical but it's restructuring for a greater good.

THEY NEED EUROPEAN STUDIOS THOUGH!!!!!

Well WiiU is bombing in Europe. Not surprised.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

Note what Iwata said before:

Nintendo chief Satoru Iwata had spoken out against layoffs in the past. "If we reduce the number of employees for better short-term financial results, employee morale will decrease," he said during an investor call in July of 2013. "I sincerely doubt employees who fear that they may be laid off will be able to develop software titles that could impress people around the world."

They barely have any developers in Europe so I doubt they care as much. If they were developers and creative leaders, the restructure probably wouldn't have affected them. The actual game developers shouldn't have to worry.

This obviously sucks for the people that lost their jobs though.

So NOE will be doing European localisation by using contractors instead of using in-house personnel?

Not really. The Wii U has been on the market longer, is bundled with its best selling game, yet the gap is only about 460K in Europe.

The X1 easily took the US from Wii U and it'll take Europe as well. FIFA 15 should help make that happen.
