Forums - Sony Discussion - Theory: The reason why Sony focuses on indies so much.

When/If some indie studio goes big I don't think that necessarily means they'll exclusive to Sony. Making games is a business after all, which means the studio WILL go multiplat if that means more money.

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

I can't think of one Indie developer that went on to be a AAA developer.  Which ones are they?

Activision, valve (you know, the guys that eventually made steam), Insomniac, Sucker Punch, Bungie, Retro Studios, etc.

I meant actual recent examples, when the term indie actually existed.

How recent?

Idk from last gen.

I'll search a bit around, but If they were founded recently, I suppose Media Molecule? They were founded in 2006, then they made LBP, and then they were purchased by Sony. Infact that is the perfect example of OPs case.

Idk if I'd describe LBP as an indie game.

Yeah it's like the little indie studios are stocks, and they put their money in various stocks, and hopefully some of them make it big.

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash

I wouldn't describe No Mans Sky as an indie game either. I wasn't talking about the game, but the studio.

Actually you could say that Sony is more agressive to lock up a developer to their platform then MS.  MS has partnered with many indie studios but out of them all they only purchase twisted Pixel.
