Forums - Gaming Discussion - Prediction: Dark Souls 2 will stay the highest rated new game on Metacritic in 2014

Smash Bros. near certainly will perform better (Wii U), and X has a good chance.

Destiny, Far Cry 3, Dragon Age and some other smaller yet to be revealed game may beat it as well.

I very much doubt that. The original barely managed it; the sequel went badly in the wrong direction, and reviewers are being much harsher this gen.

Probably not, but I expect it to be in the high 80s range. So there's a slim chance of it managing it (stranger things have happened!)

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Dark Souls 2 was great, I don't think anything could beat it in awesomeness this year.

I haven't seen much to reassure me that they're trying to go back to the original, but it could still end up as a solid Witcher-esque action RPG if they actually have a proper world and more than one dungeon this time.

And not even Witcher 2 managed the 90s

You forget the possibility of a Zelda game coming out in 2014.

Doubt it. 2015 earliest.

There's literally no legitimate evidence against it coming out this year.

Some overrated indie game will beat it

There's also no evidence for it coming out this year.

Bayonetta will probably get at least a 90 like it's predecessor. (no one gets to count the ps3 score because that was just an inferior port) X will definitely score well if it's released this year. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U will definitely do 90+ and most likely beat Brawl's score if we're honest.

I still think Zelda will come out this year, and if it does, that will definitely score a 95 or higher. Still think we're getting a 3D Mario as well, and that'll do over 95 as well if it's anything like Galaxy was.

There's far more evidence for it than against it. Aonuma has stated that he is shooting for a three year developement cycle with this game and that he thought SS's developement took too long and that he wanted this game's developement time to be shorter. Those are three separate occasions where he said stuff like that. Then you put that together with how they were ready to show the game an entire year ago  that Nintendo has never been above revealing a major title the E3 before the game's Winter release ie SM3DW and DKC:TF and how Nintendo has gone on record saying that they would like to start revealing games much closer to their release dates.

Then you have the one reason against it coming out this year, which is unfounded doubt.

That he said that he wants to do it in 3 years doesn't mean it's that it's going to be that fast, fact is that the last 2 mainline Zelda games took 4 and 5 years each to come out. I have a hard time believing that now in HD (Nintendo themselves pointed out that they were surprised with how difficult HD development was) it is suddenly going to work in 3 years, especially with how many delays Wii U games have experienced since launch.

You can believe what you want, but Aonuma saying that he wants to do it in 3 years is not enough to make me believe in a 2014 release, especially not with Hyrule Warriors releasing this year and them having Smash for the holidays. I guess we'll see next week.
