Please do not talk about XO and PS4 as if they were the same thing...

PS4 sold double of XO, and And XO does not increase hardware sales with the multyplatform, because if one wants to take it a platform for PS4 ...

This generation will be something similar to the 6th generation, with PlayStation domination (in home console) and Wii U and XO will sell much less, for me XO will sold only 10 milion more of Wii U.

lifetime?

Personally I think X1 will be 10m ahead of the wii U by the end of 2015.

PS4 and X1 are the same thing when it comes to picking wii U or not because those 2 systems will offer a ton of multiplatforms which the wii U never will. I know the graphics are different, but thats more of a PS4 v XB1 debate, but the point I wanted to make is that for most people, it will be either one of those instead of the wii U.

and instead are 2 different things regardless, because it was XBOX-PS2-GC, The Xbox had the best cross-platform, and yet has only sold 25 million VS the 160 milion of PS2.

Well, the situation was a bit different then.

Around 25 million PS2s were already sold when Xbox and GameCube entered the race. When Xbox and GameCube were available in all three important regions (Japan, America and Europe), the PS2 had already a hardware base of ~30 millions and all third-party-developers (in Japan and in the west) jumped aboard.

That was a huge advantage for the PS2 and it became the lead platform for most multiplatform-games. Some Xbox or GC versions were prettier than the PS2 version, but many games looked the same on all 3 platforms since the main focus of the developers was the lead platform... and there were no popular websites which dissected each multiplatform title and blew up minor graphical differences.

The PS4 will probably keep way ahead of the XBO sales and websites like digital foundry and lens of truth will constantly remind their readers that the PS4 is the stronger console. But many third party developers will see PS4+XBO+PC as one big platform with no clear lead platform... most of the work (x86-code, textures, 3d-models...) can be used for all three versions and in the polishing phase they try to choose the best settings for the console versions. Due to the similar architecture, most third party games will be released on PS4, XBO and PC, no matter on which of these platforms the games sell best... so if you don't care which version is the prettiest, you can't go wrong with your system choice.

Unfortunately, the Wii U is not in such a lucky position... ports of PS4/XBO-games would require much more effort, money and compromises (different architecture, less processing power, much less available RAM) than a port between the other 3 systems.

But in fact I do not think the gap between PS4 and XO will be 135 million as XBOX PS2, but for me minimum the gap will the half, so, 67.5 milion, for me PS4 will sold 70 milion more.

I think PS4 will sold 120 milion, and XO 50 milion.

It should be the beginning of good things but not the end. It's a key title, but we should see about 6 others over the next 12 months, and possibly a price cut. If it's not selling well in one years time, stick a fork in it. But it's not all MK8.

I will say, however, if MK8 doesn't start an upward sales trend, Nintendo will probably pull the pin behind the scenes and titles such as EAD Tokyo's next Mario will be moved to a new platform. EBay

Disagree. There are plenty of games still to come for instance zelda. However mk has to get th ball rolling into watchdogs then smash then x somewhere this year hopefully ac unity or whatever too before xmas. But what will release in 2015 I wonder?

No, i'm not, and in any case people who are on this site from 4/5 years estimated 30/40 million Wii U...

Those predictions must be 3 years old though.... from when people were under the illusion that nintendo exclusives was selling the wii, not the hardware.

Yeah, Nintendo's exclusives didn't sell the Wii.

You need to check who it is that is really disillusioned.

nope, the software only sold because the hardware got people onboard.

If nintendo software really was that compelling, the wii U wouldnt be on 6.1m.

The Wii would not have sold like it did had it not been for  mainly the Wii___ series.

All the fancy motion controls wouldn't have meant much in the beginning had it not been for WiiSports and WiiPlay.

The software played a more important role than the motion control hardware. Software is always king. Always.

Trying to use Nintendo's fuck-ups with Wii U to downplay the importance and impact of Wii's software is just lame.

I just wanted to state the obvious.  Mario Kart is the Wii U last hope for relevance in the console race.  I could elaborate more on this op but I will do so later in this thread when I am more sober.

the software was only successful because of the wii's hardware.

If they made a wii sports for wii U, it would fail.

I just hope a lot of people are going to be able to enjoy such a great game and console

there's no such thing as X game is the last hope. For sure, MK is nintendo's biggest game but that's it.
