fyi, anime isn't at all mainstream especially that stuff.  in terms of DVD/BD sales, 90% sells less than 30k units. The amount of people that watch this stuff is probably less than 1% of the population and most are watching stuff like Gundam, One Piece or DBZ.  It's a somewhat cyclical in that anime studios have to make animes with much fanservice to make people watch it but that doesn't attract a new audience so their profit doesn't grow. Most animes that have that stuff usually are about high schoolers so the 15-18 bracket too.
